Chapter 5

"I can call for extraction just a mile away," Q said as I checked around me for anyone nearby. "I'm looking at your eyepiece data now..."

"Get what you can find on Zeke Mystere." I told him, "They mentioned Scotland... can we find anywhere more specific?"

"Zeke Mystere... hang on. That's weird." Q muttered, "Looks like M has had dealings with him before. We thought that he was acting independently, but according to this new data, he was actually working with Moonlight."

"They mentioned that he left..." I gasped, ducking behind a nearby building. "... Did he stop his criminal acts at some point?"

"Yes, a year or so ago. He went off the grid, presumably to hide from them." Q continued, "It's exactly as they say, though... a last sighting was recorded in Totegan. In an abandoned cabin. How lovely."

"What about the woman?" I continued forward, trying to get to the extraction point. "It was hard to see her face, up until the very end... but I assume you can pull something."

"Hmm... I'm looking at it now..." Q suddenly gasped, not responding.

"Q? Is something wrong?" I stopped dead in my tracks, thinking that my earpiece was busted. "Have you found a match?"

"I... n-no..." Q finally responded, obviously lying.

"Q, you have to tell me." I told him. "We're looking at the ringleader here... people's lives are at stake."

He took a deep breath, bracing himself. "Her name is... Fiona Walker..."

"Walker-?" I exclaimed, arriving at the extraction point. "Is... is it just a coincidence, or...?"

"No, it's not," Q sighed, "Fiona Walker, the leader of Moonlight... she's my mother."

- Joe Ashen's POV -

Drew and X sat with me in one of the many meeting room of Interpol. X was preparing to pitch his security and intelligence service, and we were forced to be dragged along. I didn't like it one bit, but I as supposed to support him.

"Good evening, everyone." X said with a smile. "The service that I am offering, whilst providing more surveillance, only benefits people like us."

"Try telling that to the public." I whispered to Drew, earning a chuckle from him.

"With all of our forces unified, we will have access to more data." X continued, "More data means we are able to prevent any harm that would come to the population."

"We will now take a vote... any further information will be in your booklets." Drew smiled, happily taking the role as the speaker out of the two of us. "Remember, a unanimous decision is required."

X walked over to my desk and tapped the 'For' option on my tablet. I had to resist the urge to glare at him for voting for me.

Drew looked at his tablet as the votes were counted. "Um... eight to one. The act cannot be passed..."

X looked disappointment as the crowd began to disappear. "Ah, well... I guess there's always next time."

As Drew sat back down next to me, he passed me his tablet, visibly worried. He had a news article up, titled 'CAR CHASE IN ITALY'.

The article mentioned a lavender-haired woman being pursued by unidentified cars. I immediately knew whom it was talking about.

"I'll call Q." I whispered to Drew as I got up, pulling out my phone.

Q took a while to answer, which I assumed to it being late at night. When he did answer, he sounded annoyed.

"Q, where's D right now?" I asked him, also annoyed.

"O-Oh, um... I'll just check right now, sir..."  Q shuffled about. "Why do you ask?"

"We've had a report that she might not be," I exclaimed, "So if she's not, you're in trouble."

"She... she appears to be in her home..." Q finally responded.

"Well, keep an eye on her." I told him. "Knowing her, she'll probably try to sneak out at some point..."

I rejoined the others, exhausted. Drew placed his hand in mine. He instantly made everything a bit better.

- Kotoko Minami's POV -

I awoke to see Mr. Q, sitting up, his laptop on his lap. He didn't seem to realise that I was awake yet.

I tapped his shoulder and he turned to me with tired eyes. Before he could say anything, I spoke first.

"Is Miss. Kirigiri there?" I asked him, tilting my head.

"Don't worry, I made sure that she was safe." He smiled at me and patted my head. "She's still going to be away for a while, I'm afraid."

"Oh... I see..." I sighed and looked away. "... But you'll keep me company, won't you?"

"I wouldn't exactly trust Griffin to do it." He chuckled, "He left you all alone! Like an idiot!"

"He's not an idiot!" I said, pouting. "I'm sure he has a good explanation for it..."

Mr. Q shook his head. "He shot Julia the last time he was out there. I dread to think what he's up to now."

"You guys bully him too much!" I argued back. "He... hey, what are you doing still awake? You said that Miss. Kirigiri was okay now!"

"M just called me, that's all." He shut his laptop down and put it away. "I was now going back to sleep..."

"I'll go back to sleep as well!" I grinned, "I wanna be well rested for when she comes back... even if it'll be a while..."

"She's saving people's lives. Someone has to do her job." He told me, "I'm sure when all this is done, we can go out somewhere fun."

"I wanna go to an amusement park!" I said immediately. "I bet she'd go on all of the rides with me."

"W-Well, I wouldn't go on the big ones, so yes..." Mr. Q stuttered, his face pale. "... I never really was the type for those rides."

I settled back into the covers as Mr. Q did the same. I snuggled my teddy and closed my eyes, falling back to sleep again.
