I finally got out of that hellhole when my dad got arrested for being caught with heroine. After I told the police what had happened, he was sentenced to 20 years in jail for rape, abuse, kidnapping and possession of drugs.

Now I had no parents. No one to live with. No one to care for me. That was the day that I was put into the foster system. It was scary. Not knowing if someone would ever take you in, but eventually someone did.

Their names were Anne and James Jacob. They were wonderful people. They had always wanted a child, but Anne wasn't able. One day they decided that being foster parents sounded like a good idea, and then they found me. I had a home now. A good, loving home. I know it might not be permanent, but it's good enough for me.

Present Day: 2 Years Later.

{information} - Kayla is now 16 and Anne and James adopted her. Her name is now legally "Kayla Jacob"

"Wake up Kayla! Time for school!" Mom turned on my light. Ugh. Not school. She came over and shook me slightly.

"Ok. Ok. I'm awake." I grumbled.

"Alright, honey. Get ready for your first day at this new school. I know we just moved her a couple days ago, but trust me, you'll make friends fast." She smiled at me assuringly.

I got up and went into the bathroom. I took a quick shower, blow dryed my hair, and left it naturally straight. I did my usual makeup.

I went back to my room and picked out my outfit. I eventually decided on my black crop top and acid wash high waisted shorts. I put on my galaxy vans and went downstairs. My parents already had breakfast made for me.

I quickly ate my scrambled eggs and bacon. I grabbed my purse and my iPhone.

"Have a good day at school!" my parents said in unison.

"Thanks. I'll try." I smiled at them and then walked out the front door. I just got my drivers license a couple weeks ago, so I got in my new car, and drove to school.

The day was long and boring. Typical school day. Except for one thing, I kept seeing this boy. He was in all but one of my classes. He seemed popular, good looking. I guess it was his eyes that stood out to me the most. A bright, piercing blue. Maybe I have my first crush. We'll see.

I think I might have made a friend at lunch though. Her name was Ali. She gave me her phone number. That was basically the only person that I talked to during the day.

-----

I drove home from school, and when I got home my parents for waiting for me on the couch.

"Hey hun, sit down." mom told me.

"What's going on?" I asked them. I was getting worried. I guess my dad could tell because he quickly reassured me.

"No. Darling. It's not anything bad. We just wanted to let you know that we're going over to the neighbors' house for dinner tonight." He told me.

"Alright." I smiled at them. "When are we going?"

"We'll go over there in 20 minutes." my mom answered.

I ran upstairs to my room to change. I put on my favorite dress. It was pink, short and flowy.

I went into the bathroom and touched up my makeup and then put on my black vans. I went downstairs, ready for dinner.

"You look very nice." My mom complimented.

"Thank you mom." I smiled at her.

We left our house and walked over to the neighbors' house. We rung the doorbell and waited a few moments. I couldn't believe who answered the door. The boy with the blue eyes.
