Around 6 after the sun was risen, Nash drove me back home. I thanked him for taking me and went inside my house.

I check in my parent's room to make sure they're still sleeping. They are. I still have about an hour and a half before I have to leave for school. What should I do?

There's not much to do around here, so I decide on watching Netflix. Currently my favorite show is The Fosters. I watch it until it's time to go.

-----

I go out to my car and start it up. I drive to school thinking about this morning. Why would Nash want to take me out there at 4:30 in the morning?

I pull up into the school parking lot and find a parking spot. I get out of my car and go into school. I go to my locker and get my things, and then I'm suddenly slammed back into the lockers. Pain shoots through my body.

Who the fuck is this guy? I don't know him, yet he decides it sounds like a good idea to beat me up. Great.

"So you're the new girl?" His voice is raised when he says this. His expression is angry and he has an evil grin on his face.

"Yeah. Who the hell are you?" I say through my teeth.

He's still holding me up against the lockers. How has a teacher not seen us and helped me?

"You'll find out soon enough." Immediately after he says this, he punches me in the stomach. I let out a grunt. I look to my right and see Nash running down the hallway towards us. He'll help me.

When he reaches us, he pulls the guy off of me and pushes him the other way.

Nash walks up to him and yells angrily, "You stay the hell away from her! Do you understand me, Harry?"

With that, Harry walks away. What the hell did I do to him?

"You okay?" Nash's expression immediately softens when he looks at me.

"Yeah I think so. Do you know what his problem is?" I ask him.

"Uh..yeah. He's known for bullying most of the kids here. Don't worry, I won't let it happen to you." he smiles at me.

"Well thanks for sticking up for me. It's rare for me to have someone on my side."

"Don't worry about it." He smiles at me again.

Nash walks me to my History class and then he leaves for Algebra. The rest of the day is uneventful. I don't see Nash anywhere. Not even in the halls.

-----

As soon as I get home, I put my stuff inside and go over to the Grier's house. I knock on the door and wait. Elizabeth answers.

"Hey Mrs. Grier, is Nash here?" I ask her.

"Um..yes. He's upstairs." she answers, "but he can't have any guests."

"Why not?"

"He's grounded." she answers. I can tell she's beginning to get annoyed with me.

"I'm sorry if I'm being nosy. I know it's none of my business, but why is he grounded exactly?"

"Listen, sweetie, I know you mean well, but you need to go home." she says to me, almost in a demanding way.

I slowly walk away from Nash's house. What could he have done to get grounded? Why wasn't he in school?

These questions run through my mind all night.

-----

At about 1 in the morning, as I'm laying in bed awake, I think about texting Nash but soon remember that he's grounded and his mom probably has his phone. I need to know why he's grounded. Not knowing things bug me.

I sluggishly get out of bed and leave my house, still in my pajamas. I'm leaving to go to Nash's.

When I get there, I know I just can't knock on the door. I go around to the back of the house and look up at Nash's bedroom window. His light's on so he's probably awake. I just need to get his attention.

I know what I'm going to do. I'll throw a small rock at his window and hope that it doesn't crack. I find a good rock and throw fairly hard. It hits the window with a loud bang, but doesn't crack it from what I can tell.

A few seconds later, I see Nash. He looks out the window and then down at me. He smiles at me and then I wave to him. He opens the window.

"I'll open the back door for you!" he yells down to me and then closes the window.

I wait for a minute or two and then Nash is at the back door. He opens it and I walk in. We quietly sneak up to his room.

"What are you doing here?" he asks me as he giggles. We both sit down on his bed.

"I wanted to know why you're grounded." I tell him.

"Oh..yeah. Just don't worry about it."

"Nash, tell me." I demand.

"Fine, um. I got suspended for a week." he answers.

"Why? and why didn't you want to tell me?" I ask, confused.

"Well..um..I," he stutters, "I got suspended because of helping you get away from Harry."

"What?"

"Apparently a teacher saw me push Harry and told the principal, so I get suspended for violence." He explains.

"..I'm sorry.." I say. I feel terrible. It's my fault that he got suspended.

"Don't be sorry, Kayla. I helped you and that's all that matters." he smiles at me assuringly.

We're sitting on the bed together when he leans close to me and gives me a sweet, heartfelt hug.
