I was glad the wind blew against the sails. I wondered if maybe someday the wind would blow against me and I would fly as I did with Landon. The ship was quiet that night. You could sense the tension in the air. At this point, everyone was homesick and restless. Cole captained the ship with a plan; to return us to Cara.
Landon stood right behind his brother. He watched the way Cole's hands lightly touched the wheel. Landon studied the maps Cole was looking at. "I'm gonna take over," Landon finally said.
"No way! I've got this! You don't even know how to sail!" Cole laughed.
"You deserve some rest, Cole. Your eyes have such big bags that you could probably carry a dozen apples in them!" Landon snickered.
"Maybe, but I don't know..." Cole said still concentrating on the drift of the waves.
"Please?" Landon begged, wanting to play captain for a few hours.
"Well, okay!" Cole finally agreed. "I'm going below deck. Prince Lucas said he caught a big fish and they're cookin' it!" He scurried downstairs.
"You do that! Enjoy it! I'll be here!" Landon smiled putting his hand on the wheel and studying the waves.
I was enjoying some fish when Cole walked in. He seemed happy. "Cole? What are you doing? Who's at the wheel?" Prince Lucas asked. There was a frantic look on his face, almost as if he thought we were going to sink in a matter of seconds.
"Landon, he's taking over for a little while," Cole replied.
"A golden eye? Captaining a ship? Are you all out of your goddamn minds?" Heather rolled her eyes. She started to run up the stairs.
"Relax! It's fine!" Cole replied shoving some fish into his mouth. "I put a spell on the wheel anyway."
"I am going to get some fish for tomorrow's breakfast." Prince Lucas told us. I was tempted to follow him. Maybe I wanted answers. But, he shouldn't have to give me answers, he's the prince. So, I stayed toasting a fancy glass with the ever-so-lovely Princess Heather.
Princess Heather walked over to Cole. She pressed her hand on his shoulder and peered around so they were face-to-face. "You're so smart, Cole!" she laughed. "I can't believe you can captain a ship! That's so impressive! You're the first guy I've met who can do that!"
"It's not that hard..." Cole shrugged. He took her hand off his shoulder. She put it back on. Her long blonde hair touched his chest.
"Did anyone ever tell you that you're really handsome?" she giggled.
"It doesn't really come up," Cole rolled his eyes. He started to get up out of his chair. Princess Heather pulled him back down by the collar. That princess couldn't take a hint. And as much as Cole hated Prince Lucas, he would never flirt with his soon-to-be wife.
"Can I ask you something?" Princess Heather asked. Cole started to walk away. She yanked him back and laid her lips on his.
"What the hell?" Cole yelled. Princess Heather covered his mouth. "Aren't you... marrying Prince Lucas..." Cole said his voice got quieter as he spoke. Princess Heather took her hand off of his mouth.
"He doesn't have to know." Princess Heather laughed. She yanked him harder. Cole's eyes began to glow. His strength doubled and he threw Princess Heather against the wall.
"Don't touch me... ever again!" Cole yelled. Princess Heather stood up and dusted herself off as if nothing happened. As she walked by me to go upstairs, she whispered something in my ear.
"Snitch on me and I'll snitch on you!" she said. An image of me hanging dead in a prison cell crossed my mind. I was about to turn away and throw a punch, but I couldn't waste any energy on her. She had more power than I did, so I decided to play nice.
That night was a storm in our sea of emotions. Little did I know, a huge storm was coming my way.
Cole was back on the wheel. A crack of lightning scared us all and we yelped. The five of us huddled close together to keep warm. Prince Lucas hugged Princess Heather tight. I glared at her and she gave me a grin. What a bitch. Oh sorry! A royal bitch. The rain pounded on our backs. "Cole, what's happening?" Prince Lucas yelled over the rain.
"Gee, Prince, I don't know! I'm guessing a storm?" Cole said sarcastically.
"Well, is it coming closer? Are we in danger? What do you know about the storm?" Prince Lucas questioned.
"Not much," Cole replied trying to please his prince yet tell him the truth.
"What DO you know?" Prince Lucas asked.
"That there's a storm. That's it." Cole yelled.
Landon and Cole watched the wheel. It spun in circles. "What the fuck is happening? Can't you do something?" Princess Heather yelled.
"Why does everyone think I know everything?" Cole complained not looking Heather in the eye. A huge wave arose.
"Hit the deck!" Landon yelled. We fell on our stomachs obeying. I felt the weight of a thousand gallons of water on my back. Those were the last words that Landon told us. We all were silently washing away in the water. When we reached the surface, we screamed.
"Landon!" I screamed.
"Heather!" Prince Lucas screamed.
"Cole!" Landon screamed.
"Lucas!" Princess Heather screamed.
"Vera!" Cole screamed.
Just as we saw a familiar face, the sea crashed them down in a huge wave. I gasped for air and I didn't have much luck. I saw glimpses of faces. I coughed and coughed. Then, I saw black. Nothing.
