We awoke to the sound of hundreds of hands banging on our windows. Landon sighed. I did too. I laid on the floor next to Landon. Cole slept on the bed. Golden eyes aren't allowed to sleep in royal beds.
"Good morning!" I greeted pulling down the shades. The windows trembled. We heard a knock on the door.
"I'll get it!" Cole called getting up from the bed and running to the door. The knock was positive yet impatient. A guard nearly threw three outfits at Cole. Cole scoffed and threw the outfits onto the bed. I picked mine up. It was a beautiful lavender dress, similar to something Princess Abigail would wear. I nearly squealed realizing that it was for me!
Landon ran over to pick up his. He rolled his eyes. It was an outfit almost identical to Prince Lucas's. Landon and I are going to look like royalty! We stopped in our tracks when we saw Cole's outfit. It was nothing like ours. He held in his hand a full-on pirate getup. He would look like the pirate he really was. Cole stared at his pirate slave tattoo growing a stronger hatred towards it.
I stepped out of the bathroom head to toe in a beautiful princess dress. Landon's jaw drop when he saw me. He stared straight into my eyes. "What is it?" I asked confused. "Does it look okay?"
"You look... beautiful!" Landon smiled. I ran to him and he pulled me into a hug stroking my hair. I looked at him too.
"You look great too!" I smiled blushing. "Like a prince!"
"And you look like a princess..." he said. His breath was heavy like he was nervous or something. I looked up at him. "Like my princess," he whispered in my ear. He turned my head locking eyes with me. And before I could do anything else, he pulled me into a kiss. I kissed him back my heart fluttering. His hands brushed aganist my face. I sling my arms on top of his shoulders standing on my tiptoes. We heard the bathroom door open and Cole's footsteps. We slowed pulled away. Cole stomped out.
He was dressed head to toe in leather. His sleeveless shirt revealed his pirate tattoo and emphazed it. Cole smiled weakly. "You guys look great! Are we ready to go soon?" he asked sweetly and happily. We nodded fearing that his positivity would soon fade.
Three guards lead us to an elevated room that looked over thousands of citizens. Prince Lucas, Princess Abigail, the king, and the queen each sat on their thrones. Below them there was a huge podium sitting at least thirty other royals on the royal council. I peered around the corner. Princess Heather was on the opposite side of us with her family being fanned and pampered. The servants offered her makeup assistance and refreshments. She waved weakly at me. I waved back. Her father, the king of Hallingdale, scolded her.
Neither me, Landon, Cole, or even Prince Lucas had heard from her since we arrived back in Cara. She was on fragile ground. None of us were sure how much she told her parents about her disappearance. Judging by the way the king looked at her, probably much more than we expected.
"Good afternoon, citizens of Cara!" the king announced. The audience cheered and booed together some even attempting to throw things at the balcony. I suddenly got nervous. I felt my eyes shake. I covered them with my hand looking at Landon.
"What's wrong?" he asked concerned. I pointed to my eyes. "Just look at me and don't look away." I squinted my eyes trying to hide it. "It's all going to fine, I can promise you that. I am going to protect you and you're going to protect me. And there's no way they are locking us up again. There's people out there that are going to fight for us and I know it. I am going to fight for us." Landon told me. I took a deep breathe grabbing his hand and squeezing it. My eyes relaxed.
