"To celebrate the freedom of all golden eyes across the three kingdoms; Cara, Hallingdale, and Troybride, a grand ball will be held tonight at the Troybridge Castle. All royals, speakers, council members, and their families are invited to share a revolutionary moment in Carian history!" Princess Abigail announced.
As we all dispersed, people ran up to me. "Is it true that you are the first golden eye that has ever stepped foot in the Cara palace?" a lady asked with a notepad in her hand.
"It's true, I guess!" I smiled still shocked.
"I was the second!" Landon laughed from behind me.
"One more question-" the lady began to say.
"Vera Bradshaw! Your stylist needs you." a servant called to me.
"What?"
"Your stylist needs you. You have to be fitted for your ball gown. Princess Abigail has requested that all speakers are in formal ball attire." the servant explained.
"I guess, I've got to go," I said waving goodbye to Landon and the crowd surrounding me. Then, I stopped. I ran back giving Landon a kiss on the cheek. "See you soon!" I called back to him running to catch up with the servant.
"You too!" Landon smiled. The crowd closed him in tight.
-----------The Ball------------------
My dress was the prettiest pink I could imagine. Around my neck was the golden eye seal necklace that started it all. My eyes glowed of the excitement of going to a real royal ball.
We were each presented in pairs. I proudly linked my arm onto Landon's, gazing into his eyes. "You look beautiful," he told me.
"Thank you," I said. "You look very handsome."
"Thanks! Although I am not quite sure if silk is my gig, I think I'll stick with leather." Landon laughed dusting his pants off. Cole jumped on his back.
"There's a ton of food here!" Cole squealed displaying his huge plate of food for us to see. "They have food here that I didn't even know existed. Did you know that they can take a chicken's egg and then hard boil it? I don't even know what that means! I've got to go get seconds!" Cole ran off.
"He's in his element." I commented with a giggle. I looked over to see Princess Heather and Prince Lucas talking with their parents. "We should go thank them." We walked over.
"Vera!" Prince Lucas realized.
"Hey! I just want to thank you all for everything. You've just done so much! There's no way we can ever repay you!" I thanked with a sweet smile.
"It's our pleasure!" the king of Cara said.
We all ate and danced and talked. It was one of the best days of my life. I looked over and saw Bailey and her mother talking for the first time.
"Bailey!" her mother screamed trying to get her attention.
"I don't want to talk to you!" Bailey screamed back.
"I just wanted to say that I'm sorry... and I miss my little girl. I should've never treat you the way I did. Your my daughter no matter what. And it's okay if you don't want to talk... I just wanted to let you know that I miss you." her mother said.
"I miss you, too." Bailey admitted.
"Can I have a second chance?" Bailey's mother asked.
"I don't know..." Bailey said.
"Please?" her mother pleaded.
"Okay, just promise me that you won't be scared of me." Bailey said.
"I promise, sweetie. I was stupid. I am supposed to be teaching you. And I guess you are teaching me." her mother realized.
"I still love you," Bailey told her.
"I love you more." her mother said.
"Hey, guys! Can I talk to you for a minute?" Cole asked Landon. He pulled me and Landon aside. He didn't look like himself. We could tell something was wrong. "I don't feel well." Cole announced. Landon had worry in his eyes.
"Are you sure? Did you eat something bad?" I asked.
"No, I can't.... I can't breathe..." Cole tried to say.
Prince Lucas stepped up onto the podium. "I just want to take a minute to thank everyone for this momentous night. It truly took each and every one of you. Being raised the way we were, it was nice to see everyone change their outlooks. It was inspiring even. Come on up, Vera, Landon, and Cole!" Prince Lucas gestured.
Cole shook his head. He held his stomach. "I can't." he whispered.
People shot us dirty looks. We learned quickly that if a royal tells you to do something, you do it. We all forced ourselves up on the stage. And just as everyone's glasses were raised, Cole fell to the ground. His eyes fluttered and rolled to the back of his head.
Several people came running up. "Get out of the way!" one woman yelled, the royal doctor. She was a black eye. She pushed everyone away and kneeled down beside Cole. She felt his forehead and looking him over. "He has been poisoned!" she announced. The crowd gasped.
And just as peace was restored, chaos erupted once again. This time, nothing would be the same as it was that night. Everything would change.
Alright! That's the end! I hope you have enjoyed this story. Please check out my other works if you did! A sequel is in the works!
