From that week on Damon and Elena rehearsed their dance scene.
Mrs. Collins gave them the choreography with the help of her husband.
Damon smiled as he thought back to the first time he and Elena danced together:
He knew just by the look in Elena eyes that she enjoyed it as much as he did.
"You remember the first time we danced at the Miss Mystic Fall's dance?" He whispered to her.
A chill went down Elena spine after hearing that reminder.
"Yes. I remember."
"You looked so beautiful that day, but you always do."
It was now time for the dance and dialogue rehearsal. Mrs. Collins and Mr. Collins were doing the roles of Dr. Meade and Aunt Pittypat.
Sound effects of crowd grasp, murmurs, and laughs were used for this scene.
DR. MEADE (Mr. Collins): Only twenty-five dollars for giving your favorite lady the outstanding honor ofleading the reel?
RHETT'S VOICE (from crowd) (Damon): One hundred and fifty dollars in gold!
[Gasps of surprise from the crowd, then a cheer.]
DR. MEADE: For what lady, sir?
RHETT (walking toward the platform): For Mrs. Charles Hamilton.
[The general laughter and murmur of voices ceases abruptly. There is a gasp of surprise.]
SCARLETT (Elena) - reacting in amazement.
DR. MEADE (shocked): For whom sir?
Damon imagined the reaction he would get the night of the play. No one knew what he had in store.
RHETT: Mrs. Charles Hamilton
DR. MEADE: Mrs. Hamilton is in mourning, Captain Butler. Any of our Atlanta belles would beproud ...
RHETT (his glance sweeps the crowd coldly): I said Mrs. Charles Hamilton.
DR. MEADE (annoyed): She will not consider it, sir.
SCARLETT (tossing her head back): Oh, yes, I will!
[She throws open the trap of the booth defiantly, and her blackdress in striking contrast as she walks through the blaze of color, her head high, not looking atany of the shocked faces as the women draw their skirts away from her - she makes her waytoward Rhett.]
Aunt Pittypat (Mrs. Collins) faints.
[RHETT AND SCARLETT- as they meet on the floor.Rhett advances a step or two to meet her, smiles, and bows low. Scarlett curtsies and throwsher head back defiantly. ]
You will be doing more then that the night of the play, thought Damon.
The soundtrack of the film bazzar dance began to play and Damon and Elena started to dance.
RHETT: Well, we've sort of shocked the Confederacy, Scarlett.
SCARLETT: It's a little bit like blockade running, isn't it?
