Dare Hollow kept thinking that something exciting would happen today.  Of course, nothing did. The next day, he thought the same thing, but again nothing happened.
‘Summer can be such a bore sometimes,’ he often thought to himself.
His parents were both of on separate business trips in Germany and San Francisco so he was by himself.  Not that having his parents with him changed much.  A friend of his who had lost his mother asked Dare,
‘How come I’d love a mother when I don’t have one. When you have a mother and hate her?’
Honestly, Dare’s parents were just business, business, business.  They would never call their son by his name.  They just said,‘young man,’ or ‘kid’.  As far as I’m concerned any kid with these type of parents would feel like they never meant to exist and I’m telling you Dare felt that way.
Anyway, Dare was looking after his neighbor’s plants since she was gone for the summer.  She’d be coming back today though and so he quickly finished watering the plants and sat in her lemon tree with a book.  He had just started picking up the habit of reading in some of his free time because he enjoyed seeing the stories’ problems and seeing how the hero solved everything.  ‘One day,’ he said to himself, ‘I’ll fix my story and make it better.’

He saw a car parking in the driveway and ran outside to help Ms. Charwood get her luggage in the house.
‘Thank you for taking care of my house while I was gone,’ she said gratefully. ‘I found something that you might find interesting.’  She handed a book to him.

‘Thank you miss I’ll read it soon!’ Dare said as he turned around to wave goodbye.
And that reader, is probably how this whole adventure began.

Dare flopped onto his bed and got the white book out.  The title was Stonehenge but at the back there was no blurb or anything, just a white surface.  Dare lay a finger on the the surface and sharply drew it back in surprise.  The back cover was making tapping noises!  What did that mean?  Books didn’t make tapping noises, he knew that for a fact, but apparently this one did.

‘Okay’ he thought,‘that’s a bit creepy, maybe I should show Vi first.

Vi Scarlet, Dare’s childhood friend was lying in her room texting as all 14-year old girls love to do.  Dare and Vi had been very close friends until the starting of middle school began.  That day groups were being made and people would judge you for who you ‘hung out’ with.  Vi became conscious of what she wore each day and what others felt about her.  Dare became more like a young man and just started to be with more people like him.  Worst of all, Vi became popular and watched some of her ‘friends’ treat others like dirt.  Watching someone get bullied and not doing anything about it is worse than actually bullying.  After a week they were those friends that just said ‘hello’ or how you doing?’  Anyway, right then she was thinking if she should go do something fun with her friends or if she should just finish all her homework in one day.

RING, RING.  The phone in her hand woke her up from her thoughts as she looked at the caller.  Dare?!  Well, to prevent any awkward moments at school, she decided that she should answer.

‘Hello?’ she called.

‘Hi Vi, I need you to come over right now alright?  It’s really important, come now!’ she heard Dare say across the phone.

‘What’s so important huh?’

‘Just come!’

‘Okay then, but should I wear a dress? No, no I’ll look too serious.  But if I go in shorts I might look to casual...’

Vi heard a loud exasperated sigh across the phone.

‘Just wear some jeans and a shirt or whatever I don’t care, Just COME,’ he said and hung up.

This was partly why Dare didn’t want to hang around with Vi anymore.  However, she was still a person he could trust.  Plus, she was the closest person from his house.  After what seemed like forever, the doorbell rang and she came wearing jeans and a shirt.  ‘Finally,’ he thought,‘she actually listened.
