The Others Chapter 9

It has been two days since Brook got hold of the commissioner. He made some strange requests in these two days. He was saying no to any negotiations. First he asked for two hyenas from the zoo then he asked to send 50 policemen in front with no weapons. He said that if any one opened fire then everything will be blown and hostages will be killed. After policemen came forward. Brook came out with his Bane mask on. Along with his 30 Russians. Policemen were told that if they win in this hand to hand fight then Brook will give up all hostages. Fight began but Russians beat up the police pretty bad. They were stronger and Brook's punches were too strong for a normal human to sustain. After this, Brook sent a big ball made of office chairs and tables. He said to hook it with a helicopter and take it out of the city but then blow up the helicopter. City authorities had no choice but to obey. At night, they tried to approach the building but were fired upon. They also tried to find explosives in the surrounding buildings but another building was blown up. In the morning, two hostages were thrown off the top of the building because of disobeying Brook's orders. These scenes were seen in the whole world on television. Bernard was under pressure by the superiors. On the third day, Chik came out again. He called Bernard to the front. Bernard went and he said

"What now?"

"Easy there tiger, want one more hostage to fly?"

Bernard said nothing. Chik said

"You come in, everybody stays here"

Bernard went in with Chik. Policemen got worried. After sometime, he came out. He walked up to his car and said to a captain.

"This guy is a maniac"

"What happened?"

"He wants me to act out a scene from the movie, in exchange for the hostages"

" Then do it"

"I am doing it, I just need my batman mask"

Captain got confused. Bernard called his wife and said

"Remember that batman mask I bought for Darren?"

He listened to the other side and said

"For his birthday, it was accidentally the adult size. I kept it to play with Darren. I use to wear it when playing with him"

He listened again.

"YEs bring it to commissioner's office"

His wife brought it after some time, He took the mask and went in. After two hours he came out. He signaled the captain and he came forward. Bernard said to him

"Come in, they have laid down their weapons. Hostages are on the ground floor. Nobody go towards the top floor. Brook and one of his guys is in there. They have the detonators"

Bernard came to the top floor through the elevator. He knocked on the door. Brook asked in his Joker's voice

"Who is there?"

"Detective Bernard"

"I asked who is there?"

"Batman"

"You do not sound like him"

Bernard made his voice deep like batman do in the movie.

"Batman"

"Oh, looky looky, who is here"

"I am coming in"

"Did I say you can come in? ask me to come in"

"Can I come in?"

"I did not hear a please"

"Can I please come in"

"Please do, oh my God, what a gentleman"

Bernard entered and saw Brook standing in a purple suit. One Russian was sitting in a corner between cabinets. It was to cover him from snipers. He had his thumb on the detonator button. Hyenas were chained in a corner. Bernard was wearing batman mask. Chik made him do the rehearsal for two hours and gave him the things he would need. Chik also said that if he does anything different then the Russian will detonate all the bombs. He knew what to say and what to do. He went straight for Brook. They both started fighting. Bernard felt Chik's punches in the rehearsal but Brook's were more harder than Chik's.

After a punch, Bernard took steps back and fishing net dropped on him. Bernard struggled to get of the net. As soon as he got out. Brook punched him towards the glass wall which was already shattered Bernard took step back and Brook kicked him in the chest. Bernard fell to the ground near the shattered wall. Brook picked up a metal pipe and held it against Bernard neck. He sat across his abdomen and said

"We should really stop this fight or else we will miss the fireworks"

"There won't be any fireworks"

"And here,,,,we,,,,go"

Brook just sat there motion less like he was waiting for something. After ten seconds his face showed a lot disappointment and he looked to the clock. Bernard said in batman's voice

"What were you trying to prove? that deep down everyone is as exactly as you"

Brook threw away the pipe in anger. Bernard added

"You are alone"

Brook kept on looking outside and started murmuring

"You can't rely on anyone these days, got to do everything yourself. Don't we. But that's ok. I came prepared"

Brook took out a detonator and said

"We live in a funny world, speaking of which, Do you know how I got these scars?"

Bernard said

"No, but I know how you got these"

He took out a knife out of his sleeve which Chik taped to his wrist. He swung it and gave Brook a cut on his cheek. Then he threw Brook over and through the glass wall. Brook fell down while laughing hysterically. Bernard quickly grabbed the rope which Chik gave him earlier. Bernard was tying it around Brook's leg while he was talking about fireworks. Bernard grabbed the rope and Brook stopped falling. Bernard pulled him up again. Brook's thigh was out of its socket because of the sudden stoppage in the free fall. Brook was on the ground and Bernard was standing. Brook said

"You, you just couldn't let me go, could you? This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. You truly are incorruptible. huh, you won't kill me out of some misplaced sense of self righteousness and I won't kill you because are just so much fun. I think you and I are destined to this forever "

"You will be in a jail cell forever"

"May be we should share one, you know we are doubling up the rate this city's inhabitants are losing their minds"

"This city just showed you that it is full of people, ready to believe in good"

"It will be not hard to bring them to my level, you see madness is like gravity. All you need is a little push"

Then Brook started laughing again. Bernardturned around and went to the Russian. Russian stood up and gave him thedetonator. Bernard called up the policemen. Squads showed up arrested both men.
