IT TAKES HALLIE WALKER FIVE SECONDS to realize that she just invited a boy into her house after he passed out on her lawn.
It takes her another five seconds to realize that as his car left, that well - the boy was attractive. Really attractive. And tall, too. And honestly, who the hell looks that good when hungover?
She sighs and shrugs, making her way upstairs to knock on Finn's bedroom door. "Finn, what did you want?" She asks, waiting for her younger brother to give a response.
"Nothing, I just wanted to use the phone to call mom but your friend was in the way." He replies after he opens the door.
"He's not my friend," Hallie says, shaking her head. "He was... I don't know. Just some guy who passed out on the lawn this morning. Don't tell dad."
"Passed out?" Finn's eyes widen. "What happened?"
"I dunno, he was hungover and he said he came from a party or something," she shrugs. "Honestly, it doesn't really matter. I just wanted to help him. I'm gonna be in my room if you need me, okay?"
Finn nods and Hallie turns around, walking into her room and laying down on the bed. She doesn't really know how to feel about the whole "my family moves all the time" situation because she figures that she should be used to it by now. Honestly though, she isn't. Hallie can't help but miss her old town and the familiarity of everybody who lived there. This was never really a problem when she was a kid since childhood friends weren't really a big part in her life, but as she grew older, she started to feel a little more alone without the company of her old friends. Sighing, Hallie stands up and plays music as she tries to arrange her room and make it feel more like a home and for her to pass the time.
She hums along to whatever song is playing as she continues to clean and arrange her things to get her mind off everything.

"Hallie, can we order pizza for dinner?" Finn asks, resting his head on Hallie's shoulder.
Hallie looks out of the window from the living room and sees the sky starting to grow darker. She nods and reaches over to grab her phone, handing it to Finn. "You order. Make sure we don't spend too much."
Their parents weren't home yet, and it was fine, but it all honesty, Hallie didn't always like the fact that she usually had to sacrifice a lot of her alone time to spend with her little brother. She didn't mind it (not much, anyway), but it did kind of suck at times when she wanted to go out with her friends or watch chick flicks all day. She loved spending time with Finn though, no matter how annoying he could get.
Finn stands up and hops to the kitchen with Hallie's phone. She hears him talking to the delivery man and she stands up and stretches, tired from all the unpacking. Yawning loudly, she goes over to the kitchen and grabs a glass of apple juice, sitting down on a stool as a nervous feeling begins to settle in the pit of her stomach. She was gonna start school soon, and she didn't know anyone there - well, except for Calum.
As Finn continues to give instructions to the pizza parlor, Hallie thinks about what her new life might be like. I mean, she was slightly comforted that she sort of knew someone from her new school - but then again, it's not like they actually got to bond or talk much after their encounter. Was Calum considered a friend? An acquaintance? A stranger? Would he talk to her when she got to school? Would they even be in the same classes? Or would he pretend that they never met?
"Hallie!"
Hallie blinks and turns her attention to Finn, who is staring at her with an annoyed look in his eyes. "Sorry, what?" She asks, blushing.
"I said the pizza would arrive in an hour," Finn replies slowly, looking at her suspiciously. "What's up with you?" Hallie shakes her head. "Nothing, don't worry about it."
She ruffles Finn's hair playfully and as he goes back to his video game, she goes back to brooding. I'm overreacting, she thinks. I'm never gonna have to worry about anything like this. I'm just being paranoid, as usual.
☯
Hallie and Finn eat their dinner in comfortable silence.
She loves Finn, really. He reminds her of herself in several ways, and that makes her feel sad at times because at that point in her life, she hated moving away from what was familiar to her. Luckily for her, as she grew older, she found out how to distance herself from others and to stop feeling connections - and although she felt lonely at times, she had a family who loved her and cared for her truly, honestly, and deeply, and that was all that mattered to her.
Most of the time.
