Chapter 21- Distraught Bats

Dick could not believe what had appeared in front of his eyes.

He is not responding, he thought.

He laid there clutching upon the pale robin who seemed to be sleeping peacefully.

A brother, Damien was to him.

A little brother he had never had.

And now because of his irresponsibility, he had lost him.

Dick was going to miss his bickers.

His laughs.

His confidence.

And most importantly, his innocence.

So much guilt was built into him.

He was helpless.

He was hopeless.

His shoulders shook as a tear fell, one by one.

After the call was received, Oracle felt curious on what had happened.

It most certainly was not good.

But it cannot be too bad... can it?

She recreated the memory and wondered why Dick sounded so desperate and depressed.

Never has she ever heard him in such a tone.

She grabbed her fiery red hair in frustration as a pair of feet shuffled behind her.

"Miss Gordon, is everything fine dear?"

She tilted her head pinching the bridge of her nose, as a splash of freckles lined across.

"No, no. It is fine."

She sighed turning her back.

Punching in a few keys she spoke,

"Bruce, how is it there?"

A pregnant pause took place.

"It is fine Oracle. The men dropped down unconscious meaning the battle is over. Have you found Robin yet?"

"Well ...  no. Dick told you and everyone else to come to the great hall."

"Do you know why?"

"No I don't" she replied.

"Then I will catch up with you later. Batman out."

Round two.

Stephanie.

Barbara hadn't heard from her for a while.

In case they split up she called.

"Steph, this is Babs."

"Hello there." she replied.

"Where are you and who are you with exactly."

Stephanie hesitated before saying, "Well, you see Orac-"

"Cut to the point Steph!" She yelled frustratingly.

Sighing Steph spoke, "I am with Tim. He was injured and Dick is with Damien fighting off the Unknown. He told me to flee and get Tim to safety. I don't know if this war or whatsoever is over."

The information took some time for Oracle to process.

"Dick is fine and it is over." Barbara said gripping the sides of her wheelchair.
