Elena dialled the eleven digit number that was saved to speed dial on her phone. She closed her eyes as she inhaled deeply, before exhaling; her chest rising and falling with each action.
The phone dialled twice, before the phone was answered. Elena could hear the muffled sounds of movement, shortly followed by the familiar voice of her best friend.
"Hello? Elena?"
Elena's breathing hitched in her throat. "Hi."
She could hear the gasp escaping her best friend's lips. Elena knew her so well that she knew the expression that would be on her face.
"Elena! It's been months. Months." The anger was clear in her voice, but it soon left, being replaced by the breaking of her voice. "Where have you been?" She sobbed.
"I'm sorry, Mila." Elena whispered.
"'I'm sorry'! That's all you have to say to me? After months of not knowing, all you can say is 'I'm sorry'?" Her words rushed out of her mouth like a torrential downpour. They weren't thought through, and instead a hurricane of emotions. "I was so fucking worried and after months of all my calls and texts all I get is a 'I'm sorry'!"
She stopped, however, when she heard the broken sob sounding through her phones speaker. "Elena?"
"I'm so sorry." Elena choked out. "I'm so fucking sorry. I should have called but I forgot to. I'm a shit friend. I'm so so sorry-"
"God, no, Elena." Mila spoke softly, any anger she had felt before now having been replaced with guilt. "I'm sorry. You're the one whose had to move country because your parents have died. And anyways, I was only pissed because you weren't looking at my memes."
Elena laughed through her tears at her friend. She truly was the one person Elena could go to, and the fifteen-year-old wasn't sure why she had been so scared anymore.
"Anyway, it's like midnight here, and I don't want Mum to hear me, so I'm gonna have to hang up." Mila spoke. "You're gonna message the group-chat, because I'm not the only one that has been missing you. Alright?"
Elena laughed again, nodding before she realised that Mila couldn't see her through the phone. "Yeah, okay." She hummed.
"Love ya."
Elena returned the gesture, before she hung up. A happy sigh escaped her lips as she filling herself back on to the bed. She switched on her phone screen and opened up Instagram. It was the main form of communication between her and her friends, yet she hadn't been on it in months.
