Kofi POV:

"Kofi!" My talent agent, Emily, shouted as I walked through the door of her office,

"Hey, Em," I replied as I plopped down on one of the leather seats in front of her desk.

This is the first meeting I've had with Emily in a couple of weeks. Usually she'll call me in when she finds something that she thinks will be good for my career in acting.

So far I've only done minor acting roles. I was the extra on some crime show I can't remember the name of. It wasn't that important of a role, I played a dead body. Then there was that one line in a movie that had Zendaya in it. My family had bought tickets to the opening night and cheered loudly as I said my one line 'excuse me, miss? You dropped this.' I've also appeared in a few other commercials but nothing major or really worth remembering.

"Have anything good for me today?" I asked as I watched Emily rummage through papers on her desk.

She looked up me and nodded her head causing her loose blonde hair to sway, "Yes, well, it depends if you're interested or not."

"When I have ever turned down a role?" I chuckled.

"Well, there was that one time-"

"I was not about to do an erotic film. My mom would have beat the black off my ass," I cut her off.

Emily let out a loud laugh that almost sounded like she was choking on something.

"Fair enough. Anyways, this role is on a new show called 'Bloomington.' It's about this African American family who's son goes missing without a trace. They are looking for roles to play the son's older sister," Emily explained as she read off a sheet of paper.

The quick rundown of the show had my attention. Playing an occulting character is something I've never had the opportunity to do before. Also, it sounded like it would be bigger than any role I have ever had before. Needless to say, it definitely beat the time I played a dead body.

"I'll take it," I stated immediately.

Emily's lips spread into a wide smile, "That's exactly the response I wanted to hear. I'll send you the rest of the information of the audition through email later today."

Even though I didn't have the role, yet, I was filled with excitement.
Emily ran through a couple my things in her agenda. Everything see said after she told me about the role went in one ear and straight out the other.

Once my meeting with Emily finished, I headed straight to the café to share the news with my mom who was currently working.

The familiar scent of coffee beans filled my nose as I walked through the door of the cafe. My eyes scanned the room until I found who I was looking for.

Being as quiet as I could be, I snuck up behind her and whispered in her ear, "boo."

"Shit," my mom cursed and turned to glare at me, "Kofi, you can't be sneakin' up behind me like that! Almost gave me a damn heart attack!"

I chuckled, even though what she said wasn't funny. If anything happened to my mom I would probably die from heartbreak.

"Sorry, ma."

She side eyed me, "Uh huh, I can see how sorry you are."
Shrugging my shoulders, I remembered the reason I had come here in the first place.

"Anyways," I started as I leaned against the counter behind me, "Emily just got an audition for me on this amazing new mystery, I think, show. It's about this boy who goes missing and I'm auditioning as his sister!"
