Jhene POV:
"Go figure, you were the trigger. You brought me to an obstructed view, when you knew the picture was bigger," I sang into the mic.
The words were just flowing out of me. It was easy since I knew what I wanted to sing about. Singing is the best method of releasing stress, at least for me.
"You'd ruin everything, you do it every time. You are my enemy, you are no friend of mind, muhfucker. You muhfuckin' right, You muhfuckin' right, I'm bitter."
Bitter was fucking right. Just when I thought that I had moved on from Sean, I was sucked back in. It was my mistake, I should of just let him go. We both knew that this story didn't have a happy ending. Still, my dumbass just had to let him back in. Not officially. We would hook up here and there. Never putting a label to what we were doing, just doing what felt right. Guess he was doing what felt right with other chicks too. His defense was that he thought we were just "kickin' in." Which, technically we were. But Sean and I go way too far back for him to do me like that. We knew what it was, no words had to be said.
"I think that was the one," I took off the recording headphones and made my way out of the booth.
My producers agreed and called it a wrap on the song.
"I need a drink," I hooked my arm with Kofi's as we left the studio.
We had been seeing a lot of each other since the night Chris interrupted our celebration last month. Kofi was alternating between sleeping at Melissa's, her parent's, or my house since that night. I got why, I wouldn't feel safe after having my abusive ex show up at the place I was living and threaten that he'll be back. She was mainly staying at mine since he knows where Melissa and where her parents live. I dare that fucker to try to find out where I live. Growing up in the hood with a large family means that I got people. He does not ever want to meet those people.
"Slow down, Penny," Kofi gently removed the bottle from my lips.
We had been at the club for a total of about 15 minutes now and I could already feel the liquor getting to me.
"You're right," I lead the bottle to her lips, "It's your turn. Bottom's up."
Her eyebrow rose in amusement but she didn't fight it.
"Atta girl, Fi," I stood up, took another swig from the bottle, and pulled her to the dance floor with me.
The VIP section was no fun. The club security would not let me into the general area because they "feared for my safety." All I wanted was to grind up on people but that's kinda hard to do when security won't let anyone near you.
There were some other people in the VIP, a few tried talking to us. I didn't recognize any of them but they must of been important if the security wasn't blocking them from us.
One guy slid up behind Kofi and began grinding on her. Welp, he just took my dancing partner. I had blown off the guys trying to talk to me, I was too mad at men at the moment to talk to any.
I slipped my way through the crowd and into the bathroom. My head felt light but also like it was spinning a bit if I turned it too quickly. I really need to learn to stop drinking past my limit.
"NeNe, you okay?" A familiar voice said behind me.
I could feel my lips turning into a smile, "I like when you call me by my nicknames."
Kofi returned the smile, "You didn't answer the question, you okay?"
My legs began moving towards her before I knew it.
"You don't have to worry about me," I stated as I stood directly in front of her.
She didn't back away, "I could say the same thing to you."
Her hazel eyes met my brown ones as we held each other's stare.
My hand rose and caressed her cheek, "I don't like when you're sad. Chris makes you sad."
I realized that I was sounding and acting like a child but I could not help it.
Her body froze momentarily at the mention of the name. Her hand went up to hold my hand that was on her face.
"He doesn't make me sad anymore. Scared for my fucking life, yes. But not sad."
"Do I make you happy?"
Her head nodded instantly causing her hair to bounce with it, "Yeah, you do."
"Do you feel safe with me?"
Another head nod.
"Me too," I added.
Before I knew what was happening and why it was happening, I had leaned in. The meeting of our lips almost caused for my knees to give out.
She pulled back, "Jhene, what-"
I pulled her back in and put my hand behind her head so she wouldn't pull back again. She didn't seem to mind. At all. Her hands found my ass and she gave them a soft squeeze causing me to release a moan into her mouth.
I had no idea what I was doing, but I knew it felt too good to stop.
