The Circumstances of Her Birth

When at once, the pillars of love and flesh collide to build a temple in her womb

Then I know the time is coming soon.

When that bulb illuminates the room,

I beheld with my eyes the creations of God, like a genesis, both of life and heart!

In blood and skin a work of art,

And of my soul, the purest part.

A whole network now within my hands, not to control, but guide and teach.

And yet to learn that which I seek,

Such wisdom harbored, as they speak.

With eyes that see that once unseen, but now plagued with the horrors I have known,

A weight sinks like lead into my bones.

I must warn you dear, you are not alone.

The dogs of war guard the halls of God, demons sitting at rest within the church.

On each street and corner they sulk and lurch,

Bearing claws of deception where they might perch.

You will know the killer and rapist well, for the world has damned them for their acts,

But the man who will break you cleanly in half,

Will approach with a smile, you will let him past.

You will let him know your dreams and fears, never failing to trust his falling tears.

His eyes will seem just like a crystal mirror,

Til he shows he's been reading for loopholes, dear.

And it's not only he who will act like he's God, all your bosses and critics will dim their eyes.

When they topple your hopes please don't be surprised.

When a man takes your place, please reserve your cries.

It's no haven for you, I'll do what I can. I can't show you the cruelty found in man.

But this world is sufficient in its lesson plan.

You will find it too easy to understand.

To my future daughter, please watch your steps. I hope something changes in your time.

Bringing you here right now is nearly a crime,

But I hope you succeed, my love. Destroy the thin line.
