"SOME LEAVE MARKS OTHERS LEAVE SCARS."
Alec Moretti stared out of the kitchen window solemnly. The sky was just like any other day in Forks, Dark and grey. People drove by on their way to work without a care in the world. How could they? He thought. He could they walk around outside as if it was just another day when his world was falling apart. People walked by with their dogs, smiling at strangers, dodging puddles. How much he would give to trade lives with them. To be so oblivious.
"If you stare out that window much longer the glass might break." A voice said behind him.
Alec turned around startled as his eyes settled on his sister. Her skin was pale and her eyes had dark bags under them. The bandages covering her torso where hidden by the large T-shirt she wore. Any one would think the girl was just tired. Not that she almost died.
"What the hell are you doing? Carslile specifically said-" Alec started angrily making his way over to her to drag her back to her room.
"Carslile said that I should be on bed rest I know Alec. I don't think coming to make sure you don't burn the toast is that much of a rule break." She said cutting him off in the monotone voice that had became her new normal.
Alec sighed letting her past to grab the toast. Her usual bright smile was gone. The sparks in her eyes dimmed. He didn't know what to do to make it better. He didn't know how to fix it.
"Charlie's coming over again. Something about your statement." Alec said softly.
Theo froze with her plate as she looked up at him. She had barely spoken about what happened and her brother knew that she didn't want to. But there was only so long he could delay the inevitable.
"I'll be right here with you, okay?" He told her softly while patting her head softly. She nodded weakly before returning upstairs to her room to rest.
Theo tried to sleep but all she could hear was the chopping of wood as workers in Forks tried to clear out the Forrest. The sawing and the chopping was all she could hear and it was staring to drive her crazy.
She realized then why she always had such a connection to the trees. She was just like them. Standing defenseless while someone came to just cut her down. She had never done anything wrong, excerpt exist. Except take up this space that was rightfully hers. Except stand too close.
The noise of knocking broke through the chaos and Theo knew it was time. She stood up letting out a hiss of pain. The pain killers could only do so much for her. Moving felt like dying all over again. She gazed at her reflection in the mirror. She looked terrible. She lifted up her shirt while pulling down the band of her leggings to stare at the thick bandage situated on her waist. Tears came to her eyes as she thought about the marks she'll have for the rest of her life now.
