"Wait a second!" I shouted. "Would you care to explain how the heck they know that we are here?"
"Are you out of your bloody mind?!!" Isla yelled back. "They literally are coming to kill us all and you wanna find out about that....Right now?!!"
All of them rushed towards the back door and within a snap, they were long gone, whereas I stood there not wanting to move. I heard the footsteps getting closer and closer, but I just stood there, as still as a painted ship.
"Edith, you are insane!!" a voice within me kept repeating itself. "You know that you rejected their offer and they will make you pay for it as soon as they get a chance. Run!"
I shook my head and raced to hide behind the first thing that I saw, a large broken wooden table, which was toppled to the side, against a wall with its legs touching the wall and the surface exposed to the hall, making it easier for me to actually hide.
"Search every corner of this area," a senior Police officer ordered coming in, "Elio, you go and make sure that they don't get anywhere near the cars. And Jacob, you and Amanda need to go and check the back door. NOW!
They couldn't have gotten much far from here.""Yes sir!" they replied enthusiastically.
I thought to myself:
"There are only two Police officers in the whole warehouse and it is gigantic. There's one outside and two have gone behind THE INVINCIBLES. If I can get to the main door, which is about 4 feet from my right, I can get to Elio, who's keeping an eye on the cars. He must not be paying attention as everybody knows that THE INVINCIBLES obviously aren't gonna show up in front of the main gate (i-e the parking lot). This means that I can tiptoe towards him as soon as I get out of here, take the revolver from the back pocket of his trousers and BOOM! Problem solved."I kept peeking to get the current positions of both the Police officers. They never came towards the table behind which I was hiding. Obviously, they didn't expect anyone to hide behind a freaking table. That would be nonsense. But see, that's the whole point, if you want to disappear, be at the place where others least expect you to be.
Always have worked for me.As soon as I noticed that they both were engaged in the difficult stuff, like breaking and opening the windows, opening the boxes and all, I took my chance and escaped. Leaning against the wall, I started moving towards Elio who, as I expected, was smoking a cigarette and texting on his phone. I sneakily started moving forward. With every step, my anxiety level increased by 10 times. This was because Elio was right in front of me and the warehouse, directly behind me. To make the situation even stressful, the warehouse had no doors. This meant that even if one of the Police officers inside the warehouse or the one in front of me had turned around, I was screwed.
I stepped forward, slowly and carefully, and just as I extended my hand to get the revolver, I heard, "GET HER! SHE IS THERE!!" from the senior Police officer.
But I guess, too bad for them, my reflexes are kinda good. So as a reflex, I had taken the revolver just before Elio turned around.
"Oops―" I laughed swinging the revolver in the air. "You know, I will kill your lovely friend right here if you tried to come near me. I mean, I really am sorry Elio, I shouldn't do this. After all, you are the one who helped me by smoking your cheap little cigarette and texting your girlfriend.... My bad, your secret wife."
"What? How do you know t....."
"I will tell you......If destiny allows us to meet again, but for now, my friends, I have to go." I said putting the gun over Elio's head.
"By the way, 'friends' there was sarcasm. I wouldn't actually call you my friends."
