PROLOGUE

It all started when on a cold winter Wednesday of 1990, she was approached by 3 Indianapolis Policemen. She had never gotten police to knock at her door, except for whenever she had been in trouble. This time, she knew that wasn't the case and that they weren't there to arrest her because she hadn't gone out for at least a week, and therefore she hadn't done anything against the law. Continuous knocking made her uncomfortable as she was trying to solve a very bizarre case.

So, after 30 minutes, she finally decided to get up and open the door as her work was getting interrupted anyways. Low Latent Inhibition was getting on her nerves too.

"Hey there, what were you doing?" asked one of the Policemen.

"What do you want?" she questioned in reply.

"A little help."

"Oh wow, so now you need my help.
Great," she said sarcastically.

The police had always hated her as she was a private investigator/detective, rather a very successful one, and according to them, she had no legal right to interfere in "their" work.

They had charged her out of the law and had done injustice in the past to stop her but then she was Edith Ryder, so no one had gotten success in stopping her.

"Miss look, we need a little help and we are willing to pay you for it."

"PAY," she almost shouted.

"What is your problem?" she asked, "Tell me already..... Not that I'm going to help you though. I can't leave the work I already have started in the middle...like this."

"I'm sure you'll find it interesting."

"Oh please, don't be so formal. I know the real you. Now, if you don't tell me the case in 3 seconds, I'm gonna shut this door and I'm not opening it, no matter what."

"Can we come in?"

"Don't even think about it....And 2 seconds left," she said shielding the doorway as they took a step forward.

"Well, there is a group, publicly known as THE INVINCIBLES and they have been causing problems for Indianapolis lately, we have been trying to......."

"You've been trying to what? Get them? And let me guess, you have failed miserably so here you are," she interrupted, "Oh God, I always have wished for the day police would come begging me for help!"

"Excuse me, we are not begging you and if you don't want to help, it's all good with us."

"Hmmm.....I see....You wouldn't have been here if it was good with you, but since you yourself have said it now.....so FAREWELL." she said slamming the door shut.

"THE INVINCIBLES", she murmured with a smirk.

Who were the police kidding? Obviously, she wasn't gonna help them finding some gang with a ridiculous name.

She already knew them.

In fact, that was the case she was working on before they came.

See, that's the point, those people with badges weren't qualified enough. I mean, they found out about the case 2 weeks later.... She already had gotten more than half the information needed to solve the case by that time.

She even had set the time up with them for a meeting. What was the danger to Indianapolis anyway?
