Harry's POV
I sit quietly watching a rugby game on the television. The house has been quiet for weeks now that Madi left again. I haven't held Cora in a while and I miss her little head of hair. My phone rings from across the room again, probably Niall, confirming the Christmas dinner plans. I stand up and sigh. I had just sat down. The phone has an unnamed number.
"Hello?" I question. I usually don't get a lot of calls from unknown numbers.
"Hi I'm Amy from the St. Klarton hospital's trauma unit. I've been directed to call you and let you know that we have Madison McKay and Cora McKay in our custody. They were involved in a car accident this afternoon and you were the one said to be called." She finishes up and I just stay quiet. "Sir..?"
"Uh yeah...I'll be there in a bit." I hang up and set my phone down. My hands get clammy and I lean against the counter.
My daughter. And my Madi. in the hospital possibly dying as we speak.
Of course I didn't stay on the phone long enough to find out how they were. "Please let them be okay..." I whisper and fall against the couch, with my phone back in hand. I find Louis' name in my phone and hit call.
"Hey Harry, Eleanor and I were just getting ready for the dinner tonight. Is there anything Madi wants us to bring? She wouldn't answer her phone." He says before I can even say hello.
"I need you to drive me to the hospital." I simply say. "It's an emergency."
"Are you okay?" He asks and I shake my head, even though he can't see. I can't even process thoughts anymore.
"No. I'll be at your house soon." The cold wind hit me in the face as I walk out the door. It didn't bother me. I just want to go see if they were okay. The words 'trama unit' replay in my head. They don't send people to the trauma unit for just anything. I can't even cry at this point. I'm sad or upset. It was shock and denial. This didn't happen. Madi and Cora were fine. It was a prank call. I'm met at the next corner by Louis and Eleanor in their Mini Cooper.
"Louis help him. Get him out of the weather." Eleanor says as I'm pulled into the car. "Now, tell us what's wrong."
"Madi was in an accident." I say as a sudden wave of actual sadness waves over me. "Sh...she had Cora with her. They're...they're in the trauma center...." I fight back a few tears. They ask me several more questions, that I answer with just yes and no's. I don't want to
even talk, as the ride gets longer and longer. I see the tall hospital in the distance. Soon enough Louis is jumping out, pulling me with him. Eleanor speeds away, presumably to go park. I shuffle into the lobby with droopy eyes. Louis pushes me to talk to the receptionist but I shake my head.
"We need to get in the trauma unit. Madi McKay was in an accident with his daughter. We need to see her immediately." He says and gestures for me to get out my ID. I set my wallet on the counter. "See, Harold Styles. Her emergency contact." The women has us follow her into a small waiting area. "Can you tell us how they are first?"
"Of course, that nurse, Angela, will be over in a minute." She says with a smile. How could you smile when this was your job.
"My girlfriend, Eleanor will be coming in in a few moments. Could we get her over here?" Louis says and the nurse nods, just as the other one walks up. "Hello, Louis Tomlinson." He shakes her hand. "This is Harry Styles, Madi's contact." I was in too much shock still, to say anything at all. I just wanted to see them.
"Alright, we'll start with Ms. Madi McKay. She has a bit of a concussion and some stitches on her skull. She broke her collar bone and her nose. She's got cuts and bruises all over. We have sent her in for a CAT scan, so we're still waiting for more results. We're keeping her under right now to just relieve some stress on the brain. We're expecting her to pull through just fine." She says and flips through her clip bored. "She's in room T213, just down the hall."
"What...what about Cora?" I say and she takes a deep breath. That doesn't help at all.
"Little Cora has a few broken ribs and some brain swelling. She also has some stitches in a few places. We're also keeping her under to allow the brain to go back to normal." She says. "Her room is a closed room CT225 which means she cannot have any visitors. Anyone who wants to see her would have to stay in the hall through the window."
"What do you mean? She's my daughter! I have to see her!" I stand up, towering over the nurse. I draw attention from a couple of the other nurses. "You can't keep me from seeing her!" Just as I'm about to walk down the hall way, Louis grabs my arm.
"Harry control yourself." He mumbles, still holding on to me. "You'll get to see her eventually. You have to let her get better Har." He sits me back down on the bench just as Eleanor comes in. They begin to talk quietly about Madi and Cora. A nurse comes out of a far room and comes up to us.
"Hello, I'm Kayla. I'm going to be taking care of Madison while she recovers, before we can move her from this unit." She shakes all of our hands. "She's ready to see some visitors now. She's still not awake. We'll be keeping her under for the rest of the day." We follow her down to the room she came out of before. Louis looks at the entrance and nods towards it. I didn't want to go first. I shake my head and he steps into the room. Eleanor grabs on to my elbow and follows me in. I close my eyes, I don't want to see Madi like this. I listen to the steady heart monitor beep continuously. One after another.
Beep.
Beep.
Beep.
The machine that breaths for her huffs. I slowly open my eyes. There she was. She doesn't look like Madi. A long white bandage wraps around her head. White plastic sits on top her nose. Under her eyes was dark and bruised, and stitches hold a part of her forehead together. She is horribly pale, no color to her at all. IV's hang all around her, pumping into her white skin. Bruises cover every few inches. Like they we're perfectly placed there. Painted there perhaps. Her right arm hangs in a purple sling, just across her chest. I step towards her; my eyes filling with tears. "Baby..." I run my hand down her free arm, then sit next to her. "I'm so sorry." I stay quiet for a minute, letting my head rest on her bed. "Can we have a minute Louis?" He nods and they walk out, and i hear the door click shut. I look back up at her. "Madi, you have to be okay. I love you." I say something I haven't said in months. "I realized not having you there is really shitty. I love you. I want you back. I'm sorry." I kiss her hand.
We sit there for several minutes before Louis pops his head back in. They both come in and take seats on the window, leaving me the recliner.
"Eleanor thinks it's time to get home, I'll stay here if you want me to." Louis says hours later.
"You can go." I say and they stand up. They walk over to Madi's bed and Louis rubs the hair from her face.
"Hang in there..." He says and comes up to me. "She'll be okay." He hugs me and they walk out. I had to get out of this room. I could go look at Cora, but through the glass.
I walk out and head down the hall. 225. The curtains were open but there was a number pad on the door, keeping me from entering. I look up and see Cora in a large, crib like, bed. She lays quietly on her back. Tubes hung from everywhere. She had wires hanging from her head. I close my eyes and put my hands up on the glass. "Cora bear..." I whisper. "I love you." I want to feel her little warm hands again. Of course, I haven't seen her in weeks, and when I do it's in a hospital. I take a deep breath and step back. "Goodnight princess." I say and walk back towards Madi. I collapse against the recliner in tears once I finally get there. "Dammit. This is my fault. I should have just accepted it. I love you. I need you Madi." I cry into the blanket. "I should have made you stay home."
