I hear an alarm go off. The ringing is in my head.. but, it's like the ringing is drifting off in the distance....
I slowly open my eyes and they feel so sore. I sit up and I'm in my bed. I look around and I don't see anyone. I slowly get out of the bed and its Melvina's phone alarm thats going off on her side of the room. I get up and walk over to her side of the room to her bed and I go to hit the snooze button and I gasp.
'Ouch.. what the..' I lift up my foot and I remove a piece of clear sharp glass. Oh, right.. I almost forgot what happened. I carefully walk over to the door with the piece of glass in my hand and I toss it into the trash.
God.. my cheek feels so swollen. I open the room door lightly and I step out and I go directly to the stairs. There is a police officer sitting on the couch and my mom is sitting down on the couch talking to him.
I grip tightly onto the rail of the staircase and I make my way down. I see Melvina walk out of the kitchen with a glass of water, she sees me and she says,"Hey, Indy.. did you sleep alright?" I nod my head as I go down the final step and I walk over to the couch.
My mom stands up and she rushes over to give me a hug. "Oh, India i'm so sorry baby. I-"
The police officer says,"India Jackson? I'm detective Steve Burkling. How are you?" I say,'Fine.' I had to look up a little.. he's pretty tall.
He holds his hand out waiting for me to shake it and I politely do so. He gets a nice firm grip and he releases my hand. He says,"Have a seat please Ms.Jackson, I'd like to ask you a few questions if thats alright with you?"
I nod as I sit down. Melvina gives me the glass of water and I take a sip. My mom says,"Melvina that was supposed to be for the detective." Melvina gives a look as if she didn't care. Melvina says,"Well, Indy needed it more after all who's the victim in this case? No offense Detective."
The detective chuckles a little as he says,"Thats quite alright." He says,"Okay so, do you mind telling me what you were doing yesterday? Were you home all day?" I shook my head.
'No. I was out.' The detective says,"All day miss?" I say,'Sort of yes. I left sometime in the morning after my mom left.'
He writes something down as he nods his head. "Okay, so were you out alone?" I say,'Well, for a short period of time. I ended up spending alot of my time with my boyf- my friend Michael.'
The detective nods his head as he writes more down on his note pad.
He says,"So, did you and your friend come back together? To this house?"I nodded my head. He said,"And when you guys got here did you do anything out of the ordinary? Like.. oh I don't know... the things you teenagers do. Like-"
Eww.. was he insinuating? Gross. My mom clears her throat and asks,"Excuse me for interrupting but, what does that have to do with anything?" He starts to look a bit uncomfortable. The hell could he possibly be uncomfortable about?
I speak anyways. 'We came here and we watched a movie. Then his sister came to get him and he left.' He nods his head. "Then what happened?"
I say,'I went upstairs to my room a-and..'
He asks,"What happened to your cheek? Its swollen and bruised a bit." I stop talking for a minute. How can I finish if he keeps interrupting ME? I breathe out slowly. Then I continue...
'I walked into my room and he was sitting on my bed. An-' Detective Steve asks,"He would be?" I say agitated,'My dad Okay? My dad! Can we be done with this now please?'
He says,"Well, India... in order for me to press charges, I have to know what happened." I furrow my eyebrows. 'Press charges? What are you talking about?' My mom says,"India look at your cheek! We have to take some sort of action!" I cannot believe her right now.
