1. Everything I Know

'It's funny how you can lose everything in the matter of seconds, your friends, family, your home and just about everything you used to know.' I thought to myself in the waiting room for some lady in the foster care services. ' the thing is I know wherever I land I can't stay-' "Miss Blake you can come into my office now" the woman said. "Elizabeth Blake, I know that your family was massacred but I think you'll be safe with the couple outside. They run a group home, please give them a shot." I roll my eyes and nod "alright I'll let them take you home"

" I'm Victor and this is Rosa I hope you like it at our home-" " We used to be foster kids so we know how stressfull it can be." The woman finished. We drove in silence the rest of the way. We pulled up to the house and got out of the van. I looked up and could've sworn I saw a sillhouette of a boy in the window.

Rosa opened the front door, threw her coat and smiled before calling out"we're home!" Liz could hear the radio playing tainted love in the distance. "I will DESTROY YOU!"           "There's Eugene, don't worry he's always like that" Rosa stated "Eugene" Victor said "say hello to our new guest Elizabeth" the boy turned and simply stated "hi" and went back to playing.

A young girl ran out of the kitchen and exclaimed "Welcome new sister! Do you go by Elizabeth or do you have a nickname you like to go by?" " I go by Liz." "Oh I made you a poster, come look!" She said as she started practically dragging me to a table with a really sparkly poster reading 'welcome home' which she handed me. " You should go start meeting the others I need to get back to cooking, I hope you like vegan food because I love animals, Victor you should help me!" 

Rosa began leading me upstairs " Pedro this is Liz, Liz this is Pedro he doesn't talk alot to anyone." Rosa said "And this is Mary" "Hi it's nice to meet you," "nice to meet you too" I politely replied. "it will be nice to have another girl in the house." Mary said and we continued " watch out for the step there. Oh and in here is Billy and Freddy" Rosa said while opening a door. "Billy try to make sure that Freddy doesn't say anything too weird."

" One weird thing, did you know that Approximately 40,000 Americans are injured by toilets each year." The kid sitting in the bed who I assume is billy snorted. "I'll leave you to it. Your room is right down the hall." Rosa said closing the door "I'm Billy and that is Freddy." " Liz. Liz Beretta." I stated simply making my way towards the window trying to see how far down of a drop it would be. " Trust me it's a far way down, I would know." Freddy said revealing his crutch" Victor pushed me off, they seem nice but don't buy it, it gets real game of thrones around here." "Nice joke" I stated the boys looked bewildered. "How did you-" "The corner of your lip twitched." "She's good" Billy said "thanks" "you're going to love it here." "Yeah... sure." and then we were called down for dinner.

"All hands on deck" Victor said but of course I didn't I don't want to give them hope that I would actually stay, I just needed to until I had a plan. "Thank you for this family thank you for this day thank you for this meal even if it's not steak fillet." Victor said and we began eating.

" We go to a big school, your going to love it! The principal Shirley is the best! Oh this is our security system just like an airport..." I zoned out as the small girl beside me rambled on and on until she said "bye big sister" with a hug and smile and I went with it and said "bye Darla" and walked off to my first class which was algebra which is not completely useless. "Ok class this is Elizabeth Blake" "Liz" I corrected "you can sit wherever there's an empty seat." The teacher said rolling his eyes. I look up to see Freddy gesture to the seat beside him and I took it because it's better than sitting next to a possibly more annoying stranger.

"What's the rest of your schedule?" He said and I showed him my paper "that's cool we have most of our classes together except for 4th and 6th" he said and I nodded "you're not much of a talker are you?" he said " no I'm not but I bet if you were me you wouldn't be either." That shut him up and I spent almost each of my classes relearning old information I already learned sitting next to Freddy.  It was lunch time and I got my food and sat at an empty table just to hear 2 trays slam next to me "would you rather have flight or invisibility?" Freddy asked " is this necasary?" "To him it's very" billy replied "so what is it flight or invisibility" "hypothetically if you were young with no family with little control of your powers and you know someone's trying to get to you wouldn't you want both so you can get away and never be found again?"

"Most people choose flight because they want people to think they're a hero but when there was anonymous poll most people chose invisibility because deep inside they don't feel like heroes." "So the point is?" "I think you're going to run away." Freddy said. "And why is that?" "You never unpacked your bag" "listen you don't even know who I am or what I've been through because the system kept them out of my file so it 'didn't scare away potential foster families' so don't act like you know me." "I get it you've been screwed over a lot and you don't want to trust anyone but the group home is safe we won't hurt you or screw you over." "You have no idea what I'm scared of." "What could have you so scared that you won't even give us a chance." "If you really need to know my parents were slaughtered in front of me but I made it out. the people who killed them are still out there and I know that they're looking for me. But that's not even scratching the surface." "But you're safe with us we'll protect you"Freddy reassured. "wherever I am or whoever I'm with is dangerous because I'm there." I said walking away.
