"Just strip down to our underwear?" Lolly whispered this simple sentence to Beverly as they laid their bikes down the dirt path to the quarry. The Quarry was a rocky jump-off that leads to a swimming hole underneath, the boys had invited them there along with Ben Hanscom; a new friends the group had made. They'd met Ben after he'd had a run-in with Henry Bowers and Henry had tried to carve his name into Ben's stomach. It was crazy how a bully could bring a group so close together.
The boys' stood at the rocky jump-off in their tighty-whities arguing about who had to jump off first.

Beverly smiled at her friend, loose strands of red hair dangling around her ears. When Lolly had woken up the morning after their sleepover, Beverly was gone. She said she had to be home to see her father off for work, and when Lolly saw her next her long red hair was chopped into a boyish bob. Lolly thought it looked super cool, like Winona Ryder.

"That's what they did," Beverly unbuttoned her dress and ran forward, "I'll go!" she screamed and plunged into the water below.

The boys looked back and Lolly, and then down into the water.

Lolly used two arms to pull off her oversized t-shirt, and unbuttoned a pair of denim shorts. Her black bra and pink underpants underneath served as a bathing suit.
"I guess I'm next then!" She called as she sprinted and jumped off joining Beverly.

Every boy at the Quarry's eyes went wide; most of them because they'd had seen two pretty girls in their underwear but Richie's because a girl had more balls than he did.
"We just got shown up by two girls!" Richie sighed
Stanley's cheeks were bright red, and Ben Hanscom cheeks were redder. Ben was a shy, intelligent fellow who'd caught the eye of a few bullies by being overweight. He was hopelessly in love with Beverly Marsh and had just seen more of her than he'd ever imagined.

Before long, all of the club's bodies had bobbed in the Quarry water and then soaked up the sun on the rocky border. Every pair of male eyes were either focused on Beverly or Lolly's body as the two girls sprawled out on rocks. Beverly turned her head to the right in their direction, each boy jerked their head in a different direction in response; she laughed and elbowed Lolly.

Lolly hoisted herself up on her elbows, looked directly at Richie and said, "Why are you staring? Want a date or something?"
Richie opened his mouth as if to say something and then closed it again. He was almost impressed that she'd used his own line against him.
"I wish I'd known earlier that's all it took to get Richie to shut up," Stanley smirked

He's just trying to change the subject, Bill thought.

"Can wuh-we talk about something suh-serious for a suh-suh-second?"
"Sure Bill," Beverly answered
"I-I saw Juh-juh-juh-Georgie last night,"
"What do you mean? Like you dreamt about him?" Stanley asked
"Nuh-no, I saw him. Like, I really saw him. In his bedroom, in his closet. I knuh-know we luh-looked in the sewers already, buh-but.."

Beverly and Lolly both bolted upright remembering their conversation from the night before.

"I think you saw him Bill," Lolly breathed, "Or something that looked like him."
Beverly nodded, and Eddie who had been rather quiet except for teasing Richie in the water bit his lip.
"Something weird h-happened the other day to me too, I don't think we're imaging things," Beverly said
"Maybe we should go home and collect our thoughts.. and finish this discussion another day?" Eddie asked. Eddie was eager to change the topic of conversation. The other day while he explored the train tracks on Neibolt street a decaying leper had popped out of an abandoned house's window; he didn't want to relive it right now.
The group all nodded in agreement.

After peeling themselves off the rocks, and slipping back into their clothes the group was walking back toward the neighborhood.

They saw the Bowers gangs' signature car parked on their way back, but no bullies were inside.
"Is that the home-schooled kid's bike?" Beverly asked. pointing at a bike abandoned near the opening of a path feet away from the car, "We have to help him!"
She ran into the path, and the others followed while they exchanged worried glances. Lolly unconsciously grabbed Bill's hand.

Henry Bowers had his hand pressing down on Mike Hanlon, the homeschooled kid's face which was inches above a slab of raw meat.

"Leave him alone!" Beverly called
"Look who's here to save the day, again." Henry smiled, "and you brought my girlfriend too! I was wondering if I'd ever see her this summer." He snarled when he saw Lolly's hand intertwined with Bill's.
He used his free hand to gesture at Lolly and Beverly, "You don't have to practice any of this romance shit with them. You losers are trying too hard. They'll do you, you just have to ask nicely. Just like I did." He grabbed his groin and winked, a wicked smile spread across his face.

Bill let go of Lolly's hand, and their friendship felt jeopardized for a quick moment before she saw him grabbing a rock off the ground. He launched it toward Bowers, and it hit him in the head knocking him backward. Mike scurried out from under him, and toward the group.

"GET HIM," Richie called out

A war broke out between the two sides with rocks flying in each direction, Beverly had an incredible aim and struck almost every rock she threw. One rock from Bowers side hit Eddie, and Mike who was slightly bigger than the rest threw rocks with intense strength. The Bowers Gang was outnumbered, and Henry's friends soon retreated. Henry was left on the ground behind pelted with rocks.

"GO BLOW YOUR DAD, YOU MULLET WEARING ASSHOLE!" Richie screamed, flipping Henry off with both of his hands.

Shortly after, the group gathered their breath after gaining a safe distance between themselves and where they'd left Henry.

"Thanks, guys," Mike smiled for a second, "But you shouldn't have done that, now he'll be after you too."
"He already is," Lolly sighed
"Welcome to the Losers' Club, my man" Richie said and shook Mike's hand.
"I'm gonna assume you're not Henry's real girlfriend?" Mike asked Lolly, looking at Bill and Lolly's hands
Lolly had grabbed Bill's hand again when they were finished their rock war, and Lolly hadn't even noticed. She dropped it immediately.
"I'm nobody's girlfriend, especially not Henry's."

I'm such a baby, I wish I didn't grab Bill's hand every time I got scared. Or hid behind Bill every time I got scared. Everyone's going to think I like him.

"He's a real jerk to everyone," Beverly said, "But we've found sticking together helps,"
"The Losers' Club, huh? I like the sound of that." Mike smiled
"Uh-Uh-Us too,"
