part 38 ~ the dinner

    《Hello? Mom?》I picked up the call unsure.

    《Olive, honey, I just wanted to check on you》 

    《What for? I'm good?》

    《Christina called me and told me how Matt wanted to propose to you. And I know how you don't do weddings so I thought-》

    《Mom》I stopped her.

   《Is he okay? You guys broke-up? Olive Scarlett I swear-》

    《Mom》I laughed.《Maybe I don't do weddings, but.. I really want to do this one》

    《Wait》she stopped for a second and breathed out, before letting out a squeal. --《You're getting married???》

    《Surprise?》

  《So Alex just called and asked me if I was going to propose tonight》Matt cheerfully laughed as he reached us in the backyard.

    Harry and Shelby were helping me setting up the long table, counting and re-counting how many chairs we would've needed.

    《You two, this is so exciting!》Harry basically squealed as he pulled both me and Matt into his arms in a quick smooth movement.

    《Mh, guys?》Shelby calls out with a cute high pitched giggle,《Buddy is pooping under the table》

    《That puppy is such a pooper》Harry laughed.

    《Let him》Matt said instead,《He's so cute he can do whatever he feels like》

    《What the hell are you talking about?》I rushed to the puppy and picked him up, moving him carefully on the grass. --《That's how you plan on raising our children?》

    《Your.. children?》Harry's eyes lit up.

    《Baby, our children will be the sweetest children ever》Matt smiled slowly, a dreamy look on his pretty face. --《And I won't let them poop under the table, obviously》he grinned in a very goofy way that inevitably made me laugh.

    We greeted our friends and eventually started our dinner. It was nice, having all of them there, laughing and talking about anything. Matt eyed me a couple of times and softly placed his warm hand on my thighs. Harry kept moving his sight from me to his best friend impatiently.

    My fiancé eventually grabbed his glass and coughed nervously. He stood up and breathed out.《So I wanted to make a toast》

    《Matthew Quincy?》Alexandra nervously teased up and stared at her brother. All our friends grabbed their respective glasses and waited for Matt to speak again.

    《This is been a hell of a ride for me, it wasn't easy. At all. That's why I wanted to thank all of you, for being here by my side when I needed you the most. And for being here tonight》

    《We love you, Mattyboy》Harry grinned widely and Alberto whistled. Matt shyly smiled and glanced down at me.

    《All of you knew how I wanted to do this.. thing. And you've been supportive and helpful in any way possible》

    《Just do it, Quincy!》Alexandra yelled.

    《The fact is that..》he looked down and smiled shyly,《I already did》

    There was a loud gasp, while Harry and Shelby just cheered and clapped their hands excitedly. Alexandra and Emeraude threw me a look mixed with confusion and excitement. Kat just gaped, her eyes wide.

    《Olive and I》Matt eventually spoke again,《We're engaged》

    Everyone stood up and cheered happily and excitedly, clapping their hands together as they smiled widely. I hugged each and every of our guests, a warm feeling growing inside of me as I did so.

    《Matty, the other thing》I smiled up at my fiancé and moved my eyes in Harry's direction.

    《Wait, what other thing?》my parabatai gasped.

    《Harry》Matt grinned sweetly,《I want you to be my best man at our wedding》

    《Ohmygod!》Shelby squealed and jumped excitedly.

    Harry's eyes widened as he gaped and stared at us. I laughed and pushed Matt in his direction, so they hugged tightly right away. And, in that exact moment, I finally felt happy. I felt safe, I had finally found my place in the world, my people.
