Normality, Love and Other Impossible Things
{A/N: Hi you guys! This is actually the first story that I've ever posted on here, so hooray! It's a high school AU. *dodges tomatoes* Wait, no, please, don't leave yet! I'm going to try to make this an enjoyable experience for everyone involved. I know the rating is PG, but it may go up for future chapters, so don't freak out if it does. As always, rates and reviews are more than welcome, and I live for constructive critisism! The chapters will probably be pretty short, and I'll try to update every few days or so(ish). I'm not even sure if I'll finish it, that depends on you guys. Happy reading!}
~Disclaimer: I don't own Hetalia, that belongs to Himaruya-sempai. If I did, all the characters would be gay, and Canada would be the main character.~
Act One
Chapter One
Maddie Williams trudged down the hallways of her high school, her long blonde tresses swaying gently as she made her way to her locker.
She was only a quarter of the way through her junior year, and already she couldn't wait to graduate school and leave this prison. Most of her classmates seemed more concerned over who was dating who than actual school, and the teachers didn't even seem to care. The only kind of people other than herself that seemed to worry about their futures at all were the geeky, awkward kids that seemed to be present at every school on the planet. Although, Maddie mused, she shouldn't be judging. She guessed that she was kind of a nerd herself. She didn't really mind though. Labels had never bothered her much. She had a few close friends and straight A's, and that was enough for her.
The only times that she wished she were popular were times like these, when she had to fight through thick crowds of students to get to through the halls. Mattie grunted as she was shoved by yet another anonymous student. Yeah, the day that she graduated from this hellhole would be a sweet day indeed.
When she finally got to her locker, her twin brother Alfred was waiting for her impatiently, tapping his foot and glancing at the clock on his phone. He perked up though, when he saw his Canadian sister heading in his direction.
"Yo, Maddie! You're late! What's up?" He asked in his normal volume, which about two decibels louder than everyone else's.
Maddie winced.
"Oh, I'm sorry I was late Al, I had a little bit of trouble getting over here. Apparently it’s impossible for people to notice me.” She rolled her eyes. "Are you about ready to leave?" Her voice was almost a whisper in comparison to her brother's.
"Um, duh!" Alfred scream-spoke. "I've been waiting for like, ever! I'm starving. Can we stop at McDonalds on the way home? Please?"
Maddie sighed.
"Al, you ate just ten minutes ago... But why not? I could use a snack."
"Yuss!" Alfred gave his sister an enthusiastic high five. "You got the keys, dude?"
Maddie held up the keys to the twins' shared red truck and gave a small smile. Alfred grinned widely at her in return and started off down the hallway with Maddie not far behind.
'He can be annoying at times,' Maddie mused, 'but I really don't know what I'd do without him. After all that we've been through together... I can only hope that we always stay this close. He's helped me through so much, I'm shocked that he still cares for me like he does. Oh, I hope I'm not a burden... After-' her thoughts were interrupted by a loud shout from down the hall.
"Hey, hurry up sis! Let's go! You're moving slower than molasses today, and like I said, I'm starving!"
Maddie mentally shook herself. "Coming, Al!" she called, and raced to catch up with her younger sibling.

"Mein Gott! Where could she be? She should've left already!" Gilbert Beilschmidt complained, lowering his binoculars. Beside him, his two best friends groaned in frustration and boredom.
They were currently on the roof of Hetalia International High School stalking Gilbert's longtime crush, and they were sick of it.
"Come mon ami, if she was coming we would have seen her already. I'm all for helping my best friend find l'amour, but this is ridiculous." Francis whined. Francis Bonnefoy was known (rather infamously) for his passion for love, but he wasn't about to lie for another hour on a freezing rooftop. He had standards, after all.
To the frenchman's left was Antonio Carriedo, resident lovable idiot. His usual cheerful demeanor was gone however, and his ever-present goofy smile was replaced by a glare aimed at the back of Gilbert's head. It seemed that he too was tired of his Prussian friend's antics.
The Bad Touch Trio, as they had named themselves back when code names were cool, was only a rung below the popular kids on the social ladder. They were the self proclaimed 'bad boys' of the school, and they were constantly pulling pranks and getting up to all kinds of trouble and random crap that just seemed to follow them around. They had been inseparable ever since the third grade, when Francis and Antonio had decided to make fun of Gilbert's cousin, Roderich Edelstien, on the playground. It was all going good until little Gilbert had come running up to the three of them. He had already earned a reputation as a troublemaker, and Antonio and Francis thought that they were surely going to get beaten to a pulp. They were shocked and delighted, however, when Gilbert had instead joined in, happy to make fun of his 'prissy little girl of a cousin'.
"Hold on!" Gilbert suddenly shouted. "There she is! Isn't she awesome? There isn't a girl in the world like her."
He watched Maddie Williams and her idiot brother walk over to their vehicle and drive off, the obnoxious American yelling about something, and Mattie giggling softly beside him.
Francis rolled his eyes. He had had enough. He was about to drag the love struck idiot off of the roof and back into the school, but surprisingly, Antonio beat him to it.
"Mi amigo, I as much as I love stalking innocent people with you, I really don't want to stay up here much longer. We are leaving. Right Francis?"
Francis nodded eagerly. Anything to get back into the nice, warm school beneath their feet.
"Whatever, you unawesome losers. You just can't handle the awesomeness that is stalking people on a freezing rooftop in the middle of winter." Gilbert pouted.
"Ha! Sure Gilbert, whatever helps you sleep at night." Francis rolled his eyes as they made their way into the building below their feet. His friend could be so childish sometimes, but then, weren't they all? He supposed that all three of them could use a little maturity, but he and Antonio had far more than Gilbert, and ever since the two of them had gotten signifigant others, it had become more and more obvious. Now that Antonio had Lovina and he had Arthur, Gilbert seemed left out as the one bachelor in the group. 'Maybe getting a girlfriend would mellow him out a bit... then we could all be as close as we used to, and we wouldn't have to worry about him feeling like a third wheel... I'll have to speak to him about working up the nerve to talk to Madeline.'

{A/N: So, Francis has a plan! We'll just have to see how it goes. Don't forget to tell me how it was, because rates and reviews are author food! *Om nom nom*}
