Act One, Chapter Three

{AN: Okay, so I haven't updated in awhile, heheh... I've just been super busy with school and stuff, you know how it is. I'm going to start up udating regularly again too, which is pretty exciting. :3 So I guess I'll just leave you guys to reading then... Oh! And don't forget to like and comment, okay? That stuff makes me unbelievably happy!}

"Now," the stern looking man began. "We've never met officially, so I might as well introduce myself. I am Mr. Beilschmidt, principal of this school. The hooligan that just left is also my son."

Maddie nodded, only vaguely surprised. She already knew most of this information. She hadn't known that Mr. Beilschmidt was Gilbert's father though. That would explain, she guessed, why the albino rebel hadn't been expelled yet. Oblivious to Maddie’s inner narrative, Mr. Beilschmidt continued.

"I also don't really have much to say. This is your first infraction, and you don't strike me as a troublemaker, so I will let you off with just one afternoon detention, today after school. You must remember though, that punching other students is not tolerated here. On that note, I expect  you to write an apology letter to Yong Soo and his family. Does that sound alright?" Maddie nodded again. "Good. However, if I do see you in my office again, we may have problems. I consider myself a lenient principal, but I have no patience for repeat offenders. You may leave."

The small Canadian managed a weak "Yes sir.", and then she got the heck out of there. That man was creepy! He reminded her of his other son, Ludwig. They had the same no-nonsense attitude, slicked back blonde hair, and piercing blue eyes. She saw none of the same resemblance however, with Gilbert. They couldn't have been more different, which is probably why Maddie hadn't noticed until now that they were related. After reflecting on it for a few minutes longer, she decided to let it go. She had her own share of complicated family situations, after all.

On the other side of the school, Gilbert practically skipped down the hallway, whooping with joy the whole way to the roof.

"You guys!" He shouted, startling his best friends from their conversation. "Guess who I just talked to?! And no,” he said, his tone suddenly changing to one of complete seriousness. “It wasn't the frying pan freak. I'm over her, remember?"

His buddies knew exactly who Gilbert was talking about. Antonio gave an excited grin and went to hug his ecstatic friend.

"Mi amigo, this is great! How far did you get? Did you ask her out?"

"You'd better have." Francis said, coming to stand next to the other two. "It's already been three years. The hopelessness of the situation was starting to overwhelm me." Although his tone was condenscending, the frenchman's grin gave away his excitement. "Our Spanish friend is right though. Tell us the details! I want-non, I need-to help you!"

"Fine, fine," Gilbert said, feigning nonchalance. "I'll tell you, but only because you're my best friends." He told them what had happened, from them meeting in the hallway to him leaving her with his *coughevilcough* father.

Antonio was grinning. "Birdie? That's so cute! Maybe not as cute as my Lovina, but still... I'm so happy for you Gil! Maybe we could go on a double date! Does she like Mexican food? Oh, I know the perfect place to go! It has all kinds of tasty dishes, lots and lots of tomatoes, and-"

Francis placed a hand on his bubbly friend's mouth. He was smiling too, but he also looked skeptical.

"Hush Antonio, the adults need to talk. So Gilbert, you didn't ask her out? You have to promise me that you will ask this girl on a date the next time you see her. There's no way she could turn you down! Okay?"

Gilbert nodded confidently. He already had a plan forming in his head. There were a few unknown variables, but he felt that there was a pretty good chance that it could work.

"You guys! She was going to my vater's office, right?"

His friends nodded, not exactly sure what he was getting at.

"Well, then she probably has a detention! I've never met ANYONE that went into his office who didn't get at least one! And guess what? I have one too!"

Francis grinned, starting to understand what Gilbert was getting at.

"So all I have to do is find a way to ask her while we're there! It'll be easy! Like you said, Frenchie, there's no way she could say no!"

Antonio jumped up and down excitedly.

"That's amazing, amigo! And Francis could help you with how to ask her, right Francis?"

"Oui." the frenchman smirked. "And I will also help you find some better clothes. Those rags that you're currently wearing are hardly fit to woo a nice girl like our Madeline with."

Gilbert looked down at his jeans and leather jacket and frowned. He didn't really think that what he wore made a difference, but the last time he had made a comment about Francis' fashion sense, he'd been mentally scarred, and he had no desire to repeat that terrible experience.

"Ja. Why not?"

"Parfait! Allons-y!"
