Glimmer POV
“I’m sorry you have to go Silk,” I said, tailing Silk to the front door. “But my prep team will be here any minute.”
“It’s okay. I know you must go do your duties as a Victor.”
It has been the required six months before the Victory Tour and now my prep team led by Aryn would come here to fix me up. When I first came home, I found that I had my own house in Victors Village. I was surprised that it was mine and my family hadn’t tried to take it over but I got them to move in anyways. Now I lived in Victors Village with Cashmere, Gloss and other Victors named Topaz, Lace and Sheen.
“Have fun in the Capitol for me. I’ll see you when you get back,” said Silk.
I had to swallow the lump in my throat. No one knew that I wasn’t coming back but Cashmere and Gloss and they both promised not to tell my family or friends what was going on.
I pulled Silk forward and crushed her to me. “I love you Silk.”
Silk wriggled out of my hug with a nervous chuckle. “I love you too. I’ll just chalk that hug up to nerves because you know I don’t hug. I’ll see you.”
I watched as Silk made her way down my stone path and turned to go down the paved street. I had to fight tears that that was one of the last few times I could see her. I was about to shut the door when I spotted a group of people lugging bags making their way up the street. I recognized Aryn’s mop of electric blue hair.
“Hey guys! I haven’t seen you guys in a really long time,” I said once they were close enough. I backed away from the door and they all trudged in. “My room is upstairs. The second door on the right if you want to set up there.”
I followed them up the stairs, not bothering to announce their arrival to my family, and once they dumped their bags on the floor of my bedroom, the squealing began. They surrounded me, hugging me and exclaiming on how I have taken such good care of my looks.
Finally Aryn had to settle them down. He got them to start unpacking everything they’ll need to start prepping me. Once they were busy, he turned to me. “How are you Glimmer?”
I knew he wasn’t talking about my personal life. “I’ve been good. So far I’ve been able to hide it and the episodes are few and far between. I’ve been having constant nightmares though.”
“That’s good to hear about the episodes. I hear that every Victor has some sort of nightmares so that’s normal,” said Aryn pulling me into a hug. The he pulled back. “We can chat while we get you ready. Right now let’s get you all prettied up for when you see Cato on the train.”
I tried not to smile but I failed. Snow was true to his promise and Cato and I were given passes to see each other for two weeks every month. I had only been given a week at home before I was shipped to see Cato in District 2. In those two weeks I had met his family and he showed me all around his District.
The next time we got to visit he came here to my District. I introduced him to my family and my closest friends Silk and Emerald. I also showed him around District one. My favorite part was showing him where I used to play in the woods as a kid.
We went back and forth like that for six months until the Victory Tour. The schedule was that Cato was going to meet me here in District 1 and from here we will go straight to District 12 and move our way up.
I was snapped out of my reverie by the sound of water. I looked to see Aryn filling my bath tub with water while we poured bottles of different liquids in the water. I could smell some it but it was a smell I couldn’t identify. I was kind of scared of all this prep but I took comfort in the fact that I had kept myself in as best condition as I could.
