Glimmer POV
“It’s so nice to have you two back!” Caesar yelled over the clapping as Cato and I sat on the couch hand in hand.
“It’s good to be back,” grinned Cato.
Caesar warmed us up with easy questions about the Victory Tour and how we spent our six months after the Games.
“So are you two still going strong then?” asked Caesar after I finished telling the story of Cato meeting me family for the first time.
“Well actually...,” started Cato, furrowing his brow. “There’s something I have to talk to Glimmer about. May I?”
My mind sped through all the possibilities as my heart started beating like a drum. Was he breaking up with me?
“Uh oh,” frowned Caesar. “Does she want to hear it?”
“I think she needs to hear it.”
I could tell Caesar had no idea what Cato was up to so he was helpless as Cato turned to me and took both my hands in his.
“Glimmer?”
I nodded numbly. “Yes?”
“I’ve loved you more than I’ve ever thought I could love someone else. I’m asking your permission to keep loving you forever.”
I must have still looked confused because Cato chuckled and then sunk to one knee in front of me. He let go of my hands to dig in his pocket and pull out a small black velvet box. He opened and I almost cried.
Sitting in a cushion of red was a thin gold band with a princess cut diamond the size of my thumb nail. The band had small diamonds down the side to make the big diamond to look even bigger.
“Will you marry me Glimmer Rambin?”
I didn’t hesitate. “YES! Yes I’ll marry you Cato. I love you so much!”
Cato slipped the ring on my finger and I threw my arms around his neck. There, right on stage, we kissed passionately until Caesar finally calmed the crowd down and got us to sit down again.
“Well congratulations! Maybe we can throw the wedding here in the Capitol!”
The crowd cheered their agreement. Caesar went as far as getting Snow to come on stage and congratulate us. He pressed a kiss to my forehead and I tried not to shiver as he promised with fake gusto that he would throw us a wedding the likes of the Capitol has never seen yet.
After the interviews, I went up and stayed in Cato’s room with him in the Training Center. It was possibly our last night together so we made the most of it as we celebrated our engagement. I fell asleep wrapped safely in Cato’s arms as we whispered to each other how much we each other.
The morning of the Victory Ball, Cato and I managed to sneak away from our prep teams. We spent the whole day on the roof, holding each other and talking about a future we will probably never have with my new job. It was only when it started getting dark outside that we came down to my floor.
“Hey Glimmer.”
I turned to the sound of my name as I stepped out of the elevator. Standing by the couch was the bronze haired man that the Capitol women pay an arm and a leg for.
“Finnick!” I squealed, running to him and throwing my arms around his neck.
“Nice to see you,” he laughed, squeezing me gently before setting me down on my feet. “How have you been?”
