Glimmer POV
I knew Cato probably wanted me to sit with him so we could catch up but I needed to find out what Aryn had meant when he said that I shouldn’t take my nickname lightly. Cashmere and Gloss were just sitting there talking so I figured this was as good as a time as any.
I leaned in to Cashmere, brushing her hair away from my face. “We need to talk. Now.”
Cashmere motioned to Gloss and he stood up. Cashmere took my hand and pulled me to the door. “We’ll be right back.”
Cashmere followed Gloss all the way to very end of the train where there was only luggage storage. Cashmere pulled me through the door and then snapped the dead-bolt shut. Gloss sunk down on someone’s suitcase and Cashmere and I followed suit.
“What’s going on Glimmer?” asked Cashmere.
“Why are people calling me The Girl who Shines?”
Cashmere locked eyes with Gloss and a silent exchange happened between them. It was Gloss who finally answered. “That was a nickname coined in the Capitol by the people who simply adored you in the arena. Now, that name is a rallying point.”
I frowned. “A rallying point? For what?”
“With what you and Cato did in the arena...Snow and his people saw that as a sign of rebellion, not love,” explained Cashmere.
I felt myself starting to tremble. “A rebellion! We weren’t trying to start a rebellion!”
“We know that but Snow doesn’t. But there is a bigger problem...,”said Gloss.
“What could be bigger than Snow thinking Cato and I are starting a rebellion?! We aren’t starting a rebellion!”
Cashmere hesitated before explaining. “People want a rebellion Glimmer. People who aren’t from the Capitol. They see what you did as sign that now is the time to rebel.”
“These rebels are rallying around you; The Girl who Shines,” said Gloss somberly.
“Why me?” I moaned. “I mean, I wasn’t the one who proposed suicide.”
Cashmere reached forward and tucked a stray hair behind my ear. “No, but you were the one who said those now famous words.”
“We’re free. I can taste freedom from the Capitol,” I recalled.
“Those words have inspired the Districts to rebel against the tyranny of the Capitol,” explained Gloss.
“Is that why Snow seems to hate me for what we did in the arena more than Cato? Because I said the words that threaten his position?”
“Exactly,” confirmed Cashmere.
“Who’s all in on this?” I asked.
“Right now it’s an underground revolution so we can’t tell you much,” declared Gloss.
“But you two are in on it?” I asked.
“Yes and if the Rebellion gains more momentum, I’m guessing you’ll be in on it soon. Right now, you just have to keep out of trouble,” warned Cashmere. “Don’t do anything more to anger Snow. Keep your nose clean.”
I nodded.
“If this Rebellion dies, Snow wins again, like he won when he recruited your services,” growled Gloss.
