I was heading home and could see the clouds in the sky darken as I quickly accelerated my pace determined not to get caught in the rain.

I tried my best to maneuver myself around all the other rushing people on the sidewalk. I was doing fairly well at avoiding bumping into anyone.

I felt a drop on my arm and took a glance at the sky. The clouds had now turned a deep grey that was bound to drop a heavy storm anytime soon.

I prep my breathing as I was about to begin a run back to my home.

Suddenly I feel my body crash into something hard, they wrapped their arms around me to assure I wouldn’t lose my balance.

“Sorry!” I blurt out. Averting my eyes to see who I had walked into. As my eyes trailed up his body I finally met his, the color an icy blue that could mesmerize you in seconds. His blonde hair with a slight brown coming out in the roots suited him perfectly.

He eyed me up and down quickly “It’s alright love” his voice almost made my legs crumble beneath me and I thanked god he was still holding me up.

He smiled sweetly at me and let go slowly, never leaving my eye contact.

I smiled back at him shyly. A silence came between us, not uncomfortable but still odd as we were just looking at one another. Finally he spoke.

“I’m Niall” I could see his eyes trace my face and in all honesty I was doing the same. He stuck his hand out and chuckled a bit at his gesture.

“Caitlin” I said breaking out into a quiet giggle when I heard his laugh, it was the contagious type, I couldn’t help it. I stuck my hand out to meet his and felt a chill run through me at the contact; the warmth of his hands enveloped mine.

“Well Caitlin, you feel like joining me to dinner? I’m starving and well, I think its about to rain” He took his hand back and was always holding that smile that never seems to fade from his lips.

I quickly made the decision in my head and knew I wanted to go.

“Yeah sure” I answered smiling. He swiftly grabbed my hand and led us to a restaurant close by. I watched our hands as they fit together perfectly, excitement ran through knowing I was about to get to know this boy better.

The moment we stepped inside I heard a loud boom and turned to see that it had started to rain, a heavy down poor and wondered what the odds were that it would rain at this precise moment.

That evening we spoke to each other as if we had been friends for years, a genuine comfort between us.

We ended up sitting in the restaurant for hours, longer then intended as we decided to wait for the rain to stop. I was beginning to like the effect this rain was having on my evening.

Every time he’d reach over and touch my hand a tingle ran through my body, the way his smile never left his face made my smile appear as I watched him an amazement, he was such a happy person all around, he would never let anything faze him or bring him down. It was one of his many traits that I had grown to admire tonight.

I turned my head to look outside and noticed that the rain had stopped and we both decided it was about time we left.

“I guess I should go…” I said giving him a sad smile, not wanting leave him yet.

“I’ll walk you home” He grabbed my hand and intertwined our fingers. I started to walk with him, but still objected feeling bad.

“You don’t have to it’s alright, you know” I said while looking straight ahead of me.

“No, I want to Caitlin” I turned my head to see his face; he had a heartwarming smile that could stop any one on the street. “And besides I couldn’t let a beautiful girl like you walk home alone late at night. What type of person would that make me?” He winked and pulled my hand closer so that our arms were now somewhat intertwined with one another as well.

I felt my cheeks burn a deep shade of red and turned my face down to the ground feeling a goofy smile spread across my lips, I could feel his stare watching me blush at his comment as we kept walking.

When we reached my house I felt my heart sink knowing now he was actually going to have to leave. He walked me to my door step and finally let go of my hands for the first time since we left the restaurant.

I turned around and looked up to him “Thank you for dinner Niall” I gave him a thankful smile “and again sorry for almost knocking you over” he chuckled at my comment.

“it was my pleasure babe” His eyes suddenly deepened into a look that was difficult to describe but it was one that made butterflies erupt in my stomach instantly. I felt his hand glide up to my face as his palm settled against my cheek a few seconds and slowly slid down to rest at the back of my neck.

“I’m quite happy you nearly knocked me over Caitlin…” I was listening to him speak, trying to grasp his words as I relished in the feel of his warm hand on the back of my neck. “If you wouldn’t have, I wouldn’t be able to do this

I quickly replayed the words he said in my head, questioning if I had understood there meaning, my thought s were cut short when I felt his lips push against mine. It wasn’t rushed nor rough, it was gentle but had bursts of passion within it. The warmth of his lips as he pulled away and reapplied them tenderly to mine a few times made my heart skip a beat, and goose bumps arise all over my body. I kissed him back with as much meaning he was putting himself, my hands tucked deep in his hair gripping slightly as his hands fell to my waist pulling my closer.

Finally he pulled away and leaned his forehead gently against mine. We both tried to steady our breathing; I closed my eyes and reopened them to see that godly smile that made me weak in the knees displayed toward me.

As he was about to speak I assumed to say goodbye I heard a shattering bust of thunder hit for the second time that night.

I smiled looking up at the sky, and back to his face…

“Why don’t you come inside…wouldn’t want you walking back in the rain now would we…”

That night I fell asleep curled up in his chest in my living room as a thought crossed my mind…

I love the rain!
