Chapter- 6

As soon as I reach my desk, I throw myself into gathering as much information as I can and don't even realize that I haven't eaten anything until my cell phone starts ringing. Seeing that it's mum, I pick it up.

"Hey sweetheart, how's the day going?" my mum's cheerful voice gives me the calm I didn't know I needed.

"It's great mum, got to meet the new acting CEO" I emphasize acting to remind myself about that asshole.

"Really? How did it go?" my mum's enthusiasm almost makes me spill everything but somehow I control myself.

"It went well, mum...listen, is there something important you wanted to tell me because I need to finish this report I'm working on" I gulp down the sorrowful tear before it can fall.

"Yeah, actually I just wanted to remind you about grandpa...so, be home on time. Alright dear"

"Yes mum, I'll be on time"

I hang up after saying bye and look at the time. It's already 5 PM. Gosh...where did the time go.

I look up and see the one person I wanna murder right now standing right in front of me smirking. Jesus! How long has he been standing there? I hope, he didn't hear me saying acting part but knowing my luck today, I think that's pretty much would be what he heard.

"Jennifer" his enthusiasm and smile makes me turn around to see my mentor walking out of her office.

"Liam, hi...it's great that you're here. I was just coming to your office"

"why, is everything alright?" I busy myself with the work but I'm sure he knows that I'm eavesdropping on their conversation as he moves to stand beside my desk.

"yeah, yeah...everything is fine. It's just that I have to leave a bit early due to an emergency but I'm still left to complete that report we spoke about" and it's like she has not asked to leave early but has given him a beacon of hope. His whole face lights up and he nods while he gives me an evil smirk. Yes, I'm looking at him...can you blame, he might as well be planning something for me right now.

"Oh, you poor thing. Jennifer, you've been with us for more than 4 years...you've practically given us your life... a mere hour earlier is not going to kill us. Besides, I'm sure it's nothing something your intern cannot handle. I mean, she's got to learn, right?" He flashes a smile and Jennifer turns to look at me.

"But, Ms. Anniston...I've to work on this report of Goldman's and I.."

"Oh c'mon Ms. Kapoor, are you really going to deny your help to your mentor? A mentor who's practically going to teach you everything and help you reach your career goal", Oh, I'm so ready to murder him.

"I'm not denying anything Mr. Whitman, I'm just saying that I have to finish this report as you asked me for.." Again, I don't get to finish my sentence as Ms. Anniston cuts me.

"Ms. Kapoor, let's make one thing clear here. This company will always give you challenges because that's how you grow...but accepting and overcoming those challenges. That's what you signed up for when you decided to join us and if it's not your cup of tea then you might as well leave" I can see that asshole Liam smirking at me behind Jennifer.

"I'll finish your reports, Ms. Anniston" I just hope they don't need to be submitted today because I do need to reach on time if I don't want my mum to be angry.

"Good, I'll share the email with you and finish it at your earliest as they need to be submitted by 9 PM, Today" As I said, just my luck.

"Sure, Ms. Anniston" she goes back to her cabin after giving me the points to remember while working on the report while the very devil stands in front of me giving me his evil smirk.

"Happy working, Ms. Kapoor. I hope you'll enjoy every bit of it. Now, I would love to stay back and chat but I've to leave because some of us do have a personal life. See yeah." He bloody winks at me. Oh, how I would love to give his personal life a shove.
