hey peoples~ it's been a while since i updated this book of mine since i've been busy but i'm back with my first album review! i'll be reviewing bts' latest album, "map of the soul: persona" which has already broken many records that my brain doesn't want to remember for some vague reason. i know it's been a little while since it was released, but please forgive me!
on with the review :)
intro: persona
it's joon's time for the intro again! when i first heard the song, i wasn't too fond of it, but now i actually am addicted to it, like. it's unhealthy. it's all rap but it's rapped in a way that you don't just get lost in the rap and it keeps the listener interested, i feel like. the track and beat itself is also unique to me. and of course, it's alluding to 2014's boy with luv era, with the old school vibes and all. overall, i like the track a lot and i think joon did a great job with it!boy with luv (feat. halsey)
title track! when i heard it for the very first time at 5:01 AM on april 13th, i was very surprised. in a good way. i instantly fell in love with the concept and i was glad that the choreography looked lighter because the last few choreos make me tired just by watching them. i really like the jungkook's part, the hook right before the chorus. its really catchy (well, the whole song is) and it made me replay it several times because there were so many things going at once - the beat was interesting, halsey's voice was harmonizing, and overall it was a really good mix for me. oh, and the line where they say, "with the two wings you gave me back then." i kind of really freaked out bc i thought it was a txt reference :)
🤔mikrokosmos
this is, hands down, i think, my favorite track off the album. it just has this sound and quality to it that makes me so happy and safe, almost. i really, really like the lyrics too - they're so sweet. it's a sweet reminder to love ourselves in the form of a great song. i absolutely just love the whole track and i hope i might see it live one day. the song, i feel like, is a lot of people's favorite. it just sounds happy, but not too happy. the track itself is something i have heard in a while and i thought it was cool that bts did something like it - it's a great song.make it right
ah, the song that ed sheeran produced. i will admit, i was a little iffy about the song at first although i don't know why since it's such a great piece. i don't really have anything to say about it, i thought the background sounds were cool and a good addition. i don't really have anything to say about the track, since i haven't listened to it as much as the other tracks, but i'm glad ed sheeran got the chance to collab with bts, ya know? (lmao)home
probably another one of my favorites, home! this song was written for us but in a fun and catchy way! i love the meaning behind it and i simply love the track itself. it has a little "swag" or something, sort of that vibe to it during the chorus. and i love it. it's a good song to workout to (as i personally discovered) and while doing homework. and joon's talking at the beginning is such a mood, "I just wanna go home." ha. i also really like that jimin started the actual song because his voice is so mesmerizing and interesting that it immediately captures the listener's attention. i was really hoping there was going to be choreo for this song, but maybe not :(jamais vu
this was instantly my favorite song, the first time i listened to the album. i still love this song so much, it's probably my second favorite after mikrokosmos. the newly formed combination of jungkook, hope, and jin perfectly executed the song. when i first heard it, i thought it was going to be a happy, upbeat song, but a few seconds later, i realized it was more of mellow, calm song. i absolutely fell in love with it. the chorus sort of gives you this sense of hope, almost. it sounds inspiring, at least to me. and i found it interesting that most of the track was just composed of a few simple beats and piano - and it still sounded like a masterpiece. truly amazing :)
dionysus
the last song! produced by our hope, i will admit, i wasn't sure about it at first. my first reaction to the song at 5:30 in the morning was hilarious - my eyes were all wide and my mouth dropped open since it's been so long since bts has done a style like this. maybe because of that, i didn't like it at first. but now i ADORE this song so much, it's such a catchy track. it's really intense from beginning to end and makes you want to get up and dance. it has that 2014 vibe to it in some parts, if you listen closely. anyway, i love dionysus as well!
what do you guys think about the album?
