helloooo i'm back at it again with another album review, this time for one of my ultimate groups, nct dream!
i will say, this might be my favorite comeback by the dreamies. the rap, the vocals, the beats, the choreo, the visuals, everything was on. fricking. point. even though mark is no longer in the dreamies :( that doesn't mean that the other six members aren't talented! rather, i think sm should literally keep nct dream a set unit because they shine so much together.
okay i'll shut up now, onto the review. also, please respect my opinions! you may not agree with some of them, and i understand that everybody has their own opinions. so please keep that in mind as you read this.
boom
where or how do i even start with this song? as soon as i heard it, i was instantly drawn in. this is a song that i liked upon my first listen. at first, i didn't really like how the song started, but jeno's intro grew on me eventually. but the chorus is super catchy, the vocals are heavenly (like, have you heard renjun's high note??) and the rap verses flow quite nicely. the choreography is also one of my favorites, it isn't too difficult, but it's not too easy either. everything that was in the music video, i loved, i love the concept, i love everything about it. and, the book i'm writing currently (called, "blackthorne") matches well with this comeback's concept. it's not exactly the same, but this song is a good track to listen to while i write it - sets the mood right. also, i like the intro beat, that "window-washing" sound they make fun of.
stronger
upon my first listen, i wasn't sure if i liked it or not. i thought it was sort of a confusing song at first, i couldn't figure out where the pre-chorus end and the chorus started - but now i love this track, so much. i like the sound of it, i like the choreography (a lot), and i love haechan's rap verse. i don't know if it's just me, but haechan sounds a lot like g-dragon when he raps in stronger. all in all, i really like the track. i also really like the ending, with haechan's "feels like it's getting, stronger, stronger." i think it ended nicely.
119
by now, you might have realized that the we boom album has three scary, cool, intimidating sounding songs and three happy unicorns rainbows and sprinkles songs (that's very exaggerated). 119 might be my favorite "scary/intimidating" song, if you know what i mean. and yes, i've read the lyrics, and yes i am shook (this song could be drippin's cousin tbh) but i loveeee the sound of it. if you listen to the very beginning of renjun's part in the second verse, there's this sound effect - the sound of glass shattering. it also continues throughout the song, right before the chorus and at the end of the bridge continuing on to the last chorus. i thought that it was really cool to add that in - it sounds really good. and of course, i have to talk about jeno's "my god, we twisted. that's right, we twisted. i know i've missed it." because that, right there is iconic. it just sounds so charismatic and so....idek how to explain it, but i love this song. all in all, i adore everything about this song, from the background track itself to the vocals.
bye my first...(love is a little difficult)
this. is. so. cute. i don't even know how else to explain it. this is 1/3 of the more friendly sounding songs on the we boom album and i think that it is such a good track. the chorus is so catchy and it draws listeners in upon first listen, at least in my opinion. and i love the detail/lyric at the end of each chorus, where a member says, "love is a little difficult." because, honestly, i'm sure we can all relate with the song and lyrics too. especially the "clumsy first love" part (or maybe that was just me). BUT ALSO CAN WE PLEASE TALK ABOUT VOCALIST JISUNG THIS COMEBACK LIKE HELLO?? the one line he had at the end of the bridge totally just killed me and i think jisung has a very unique and attractive singing style - i love his voice. anyway, i love this song.
best friend
my favorite track from the friendly-sounding songs (lmao i guess that's what i'm calling them now). i think it's a very charming song, a very cute, friendly song. i love the lyrics, and of course, i can't not talk about the "jigeum palli nawa~!" at the end because that's iconic. i think the song is really catchy, and i love the lyrics because it's basically a song about their friendship and i think that's so precious uwuwu. i love to listen to this song in the morning because it's one of those songs that instantly put you in a good mood as soon as you listen to it - and i am here for it. all in all, with the exception of 119, this might be my favorite track. oh, and the little staccato piano sounds in the chorus and in the second verse (you can hear it if you listen to the backtrack closely) reminds of of "get cool" by stray kids, and we all know that that is one happy song, so there you go.
dream run
finally, the last song of the album! i will say, i listen to this song the least out of all the other tracks. but that doesn't mean i don't like it - it's just that the other tracks are more of my style. but anyway, the chorus for this song really reminded me of a mariokart song for reason (?) but not in a bad way - only in the best way possible. but i was really confused because the backtrack sounds almost exactly like "hair in the air"? is this like a continuation of that...or? in any case, i still like the song (and its super catchy gimme gimme gimme baby~) and can we please talk about haechan's little high note? like damn that came flying out of nowhere but i'm not complaining.
thank you for reading to the very end, i know i'm very talkative, so i appreciate it! please feel free to leave comments and leave your own (respectful) opinions on the album!
