Thudding boots and screams that came from both outside and inside the house had awoken nine years old poor Polene Parker. She looked at her wall clock and was confused and angry to see that is was only four in the morning; three hours before she had to wake up for school.
Polene made her way out of bed and towards the translucent door. Before she could even place her hand on the sensor to open the door, the door disappeared itself. Polene's older sister, Nelly, burst in and immediately closed the door behind of her.
"Nelly? What's happening?" Polene asked quietly, on the verge of tears. Nelly ignored her and walked over to the window. She peeked out and muttered a curse underneath her breath. Young people, no older than nineteen, were on their knees and hands behind their heads lining the streets. Rows of armed servant bots circled them and occasionally butted a weeping kid with the bottom of their rifles. Immediately, Nelly tinted the glass and looked around the room frantically.
"Nelly," Polene tried again, "What's going on?" Finally, Nelly looked down at her younger sister and her face softened.
"Something horrible." She glanced around the room and her eyes landed on the bed. "Quick hide under the bed." Polene nodded and obeyed. As she made sure her feet were fully under the bed, she heard glass shatter and Nelly dove under the bed.
Suddenly two loud bangs sounded out and Polene couldn't hear parents' shouts anymore.
"Two female children. Nine and fifteen. Locate them both." A voice commanded. After a couple of seconds later, the door disappeared again. About five or six robots marched in and spread out. One of them wandered over to one of the windows. Something clinked in his metallic hand and he threw down shards of glass. After that everything went still and silent except for the occasional weeping kid and then a groan from said kid.
Scared and terrified, Polene turned her head to her older sister. However, Nelly was scared as well and it was showing. Nelly put a finger to her lip and signaled for Polene to stay quiet.
Suddenly, Nelly's eyes went wide and she let out a bloodcurdling scream as she was dragged from underneath. Polene screamed and felt something cold and hard grab her leg, dragging her from underneath along with her sister.
