Chapter 4: I didn't realize where I was when I woke up. It was still early, barely a sliver of light coming through the windows. I sat up and stretched, being rewarded with the sound of my back cracking. The next thing I noticed was that everyone else was still sleeping and I didn't wake up to the sound of a buzzer screeching in my ear. That's when the events of yesterday came rushing back to my head.

My head began to feel numb as the realization settled on me. "I think I'm going to be sick." I stood up quickly and navigated around the cots that held my friend's sleeping bodies and headed straight to the bathroom, locking it after me.

I sat on the lidded toilet and took several deep breaths, arranging my thoughts. 'We almost got caught. Oh my, we almost got caught! We could've died!' I thought silently to myself. I felt tears begin to sting my eyes and then fall down my cheeks. I placed my face in my hands and let my tears run. The thought of almost dying was sickening. We were so close...especially Jake and Joseph. I got up and started pacing around the bathroom. I took more deep breaths, trying to calm down, so I could get started on the work that was needed to be done.

After I finally calmed down, I walked out of the bathroom and to the living quarters. I sat on the couch and laid down. It was no use getting started without the others. I could relax and just think and that's exactly what I did. I stared at the ceiling, doing nothing but thinking.

Soon, I heard the sound of footsteps getting louder. I looked towards the hall to see Georgia drowsily walking towards me, yet it looked like she didn't notice me yet.

"Georgia, are you alright?" I asked. She stopped and moved her messy hair out of her face. When she noticed me, her face reddened.

"Eshe, yea, I'm ok. I didn't expect you to be up. I look a mess." She chuckled and sat down next to me. "Are you alright?" I sighed and nodded. "Your eyes are red." She put bluntly. "You don't have to tell me what's wrong, I'll just like to know if you really are or are not ok. I'm always here." I chuckled and laid my head on her lap.

"No, I'm not alright. We almost died." I sighed and closed my head. I felt her begin to run her fingers through my hair.

"Well, you don't have to talk about it since I was there." Georgia joked. I laughed, continuing to relax.

"You are such a perfect best friend, G," I muttered out.

There was silence for a while after that. I couldn't tell what Georgia was thinking, but it didn't bother me since I was thinking as well. Mainly about our plans and our futures. Worry soon took over me, but I didn't dare let it show on my face. I didn't want to worry Georgia or anyone else for that matter. They trusted me as their leader, so I had to put up a front. It was so hard pretending that I wasn't scared out of my mind.

I felt myself drifting back into sleep, although it wasn't a deep sleep. I was always drifting in and out whenever someone came out. Soon enough, everyone was awake and working or just hanging out except me.

"So what do we do now?" Darkness. "Teddy, are you going to help with the medicine and the garden today?" Darkness. "I'll be back. I'm going out on... surveillance" Darkness. "I'm hungry! Why didn't we think of stealing some meat?" Darkness. Silence.

I woke up fully at this point and looked around. Georgia's lap was replaced by a pillow and a glass of water with a note next to it sat on the floor next to me.
