I briskly walk through the hallways of the school, I tried to get a substitute to cover for me, but sadly nobody was available. A stream of coughs rack my chest, and I try to cover my mouth as best as possible, knowing it would upset me if I were to get one of the kids sick.
I cringe as I realize I'm wearing mismatched socks, but then remember I'm teaching a bunch of 7 years olds and I doubt they would care if I was wearing Leopard print leggings and a spotted sweater.
I enter my classroom to find all the kids doing God knows what, everywhere.
As soon as I enter the class, the children take notice and to my delight, return to their seats.
"Good morning guys!" I say through a raspy throat.
"Good morning Ms. Bloom!" The children scream in unison, making me flinch but giggle at their excited expressions.
Once I hand out the multiplication sheets, I make sure that everyone has a pencil and review certain little tricks to keep in mind for their worksheet. Soon all the students are working hard and quietly.
I take a seat at my desk and let out a breath of relief. Hopefully this day goes by fast and I can get back home to make some soup, no point in eating anything tasteful, I can't taste a thing.
My thoughts wander to Matteo, I had woken up to him, kissing my neck and whispering I had work, I was one-hundred percent sure my response was to shove my head under his pillow and continue sleeping.
Then he decided to be evil.
He had snuck his hand around my waist and before I could comprehend his plan, he wiggled his fingers making me jump and giggle, until I threatened to pee on his bed.
When I finally 'allowed' him to get me out of bed, he made me breakfast that I had barely nibble on before claiming that I was too nauseous.
He helped me to my apartment and we departed with a kiss, and he told me to come over after work.
I sighed when I realized I would probably would have to let him know that I can't make it, and I don't want to get him sick.
Knowing Matteo, he won't take 'no' for an answer and will probably find some way into my apartment and just carry me to where he pleases.
I glance over at Vince and as if sensing me, he looks up and gives me a small smile, I return it and give him a thumbs up and thumbs down to see how well he was doing with his multiplication sheet.
He merely rolls his eyes and shows me that he's actually finished. I give him a teasing scolding look and he just smiles.
His attention goes to Margie who's sitting next to him, she looks like she struggling but just as soon I get up, Vincent grabs his pencil and tugs on her shirt, getting her attention.
He quietly starts explaining to her mistakes and Margie looks at him with complete adoration, well as much as a seven year old can muster.
I chuckle when I realize that Vince probably has the same charms as Matteo, and we seem to have a little crush in the class.
I give the kids another 10 minutes.
"Times up!" The kids scramble around my desk trying to pass in their worksheets and I grab them as quickly and wait for everyone to return to their seats.
Class goes by quickly and I decide to stroll to the vending machine, feeling a little hungry since this morning.
I grab a granola bar, and return back to class, to mark all the worksheets, once I had let out all the kids for recess, the classroom was peacefully quiet.
