Kyle's P.O.V.

Beth places her hand on mine.  "You're right. I totally overreacted and we wouldn't be in this mess if I hadn't shot off my mouth."

Holy shit. She likes me, doesn't she. It all makes sense now. She was just playing hard to get this whole entire time. Do I like her? I look at her a little longer.

She looks up at me apologetically and there's tears in her eyes. I pull her in for a hug.

"Hey, it's okay. I'm sure you just got upset," I say into her ear. She hugs me back. I release her and smile. "I forgive you, Beth."

Yes, I do like her. A lot.

"Well, its nice to see that you two lovebirds have made up," the teacher started, interrupting our moment, "But this is detention, not Dr, Phil. Now unless you got a question about the homework, I suggest you get back to your seat, missy, and stay there for the next 5 minutes. Then, you're free to go and do whatever."

Beth stands up and practically skips back to her chair. How could someone like her have gone to school with me for years and someone like me not notice her?

The teacher dismisses us from detention and I go out to my car to grab some things before football practice. Coach is gonna make me run so much because of my detention, I can't believe I got a detention on the first day of school. I'm not gonna hear the end of this for a long time.

"Hey, Kyle! Wait up for a sec!" Beth hollered after me. I stopped right where I was and turned around.

"Can I use your phone to call my mom real quick? I can't find mine?" she asked.

"Why don't you just use Kendall's?" I ask and then smile when I realize how rude I sound. "I mean, of course you can. I was just wondering."

"Oh, she doesn't have hers with her," she explained. I handed her my phone and watched her type some numbers and tap call.

"Hey, Mom, I might be a little late to dinner. I'm gonna go drop Kendall off at her house real quick, 'kay? Love you bye." Beth handed me my phone and smiled. "I left a message. Thanks!" and then ran back to her car giggling.

"No prob," I yell at her as she goes and then smile at her as she drives off.

Homecoming is next Friday. I bet I could get her to go to the dance with me. I could even do something cool to ask her out like do something at halftime at the football game this Friday, like when the band is playing...Wait. What the hell am I doing? Am I really falling for the nerd girl? Someone like me cannot like someone like her. I've got a reputation to uphold. I'm the strong jock boy who only hangs with the popular cheerleaders. I can't be the kind of guy who dates the ones who read books for fun or who aren't skinny and blonde. I can't become one of them. I have to make her popular first. And I think I know exactly how to do it.

Beth's P.O.V.

"So he totally fell for it?" Kendall asked, laughing in disbelief.

"Oh yeah. He didn't even know." I laugh. "I said I had to call my mom. Then when there was no answer, I said I left a voicemail."

"So now what?" she questions eagerly.

"Now all I have to do is text the number I called from and make something up. Soon he'll be wrapped around my finger and then we wait," I respond like I'm explaining a homework problem.

"Wait for what? What are you gonna do?" Kendall seems nervous now.

"I'm gonna break his heart just like he did to you. I'm going to get him hooked and use him like he uses every other girl in the area. When I'm done with him, he won't know what hit him." I say. Kendall smiles at me with so much optimism and then it all fades.
