“Please Jamie?” The principal pleaded, “It will be a masquerade dance so no one will know it’s you and you’re an amazing singer so you’d be perfect.”

Jamie pushed her glasses up on her nose and sighed, “I just….” She groaned, “Fine.” What was it with her and not being able to say no?

The principal beamed, “Thank you! Now, you have two weeks to rehearse and pick songs, I ask that at least one is an original so the kids can hear something new.”

“What?” Jamie’s eyes widened, “A new song? How am I supposed to do that in two weeks? There’s so much that goes into making a song, it takes time.”

“And I’m sure you’ll handle it just fine,” The principal nodded briskly, “Now I suggest you get going so you have time to eat lunch before it’s time for class.”

Jamie stood and grabbed her bag. With a bit of attitude she slammed the office door behind her as she stepped out into the school hallway. “He doesn’t understand at all,” She muttered under her breath as she headed for the cafeteria.

When she opened the cafeteria door her eyes immediately went to her normal table, instead of finding Lily and Talia there, she found them sitting with Edward, Liam and Niall.

Ever since Lily and Edward became a couple Jamie was back to being on her own, not that she cared….much.

Jamie sighed as she pushed her glasses up nervously and headed for the almost empty lunch line. She grabbed a tray and quickly went through the line and sat at her now empty table. Pulling her history book out of her backpack she tried desperately to understand what she was reading about the Civil War but when it came to Social Studies she was a goner.

"Liam... Why don't you go over and invite Jamie to sit with us?" Lily suggested quietly, giving Liam a knowing look.

Liam turned to the side, covering his face with his hand in an attempt to hide the red creeping up his cheeks. "Why don't you?”

"Why don't you guys go find your own table?" Talia muttered quietly as she glared daggers at the boys. She still wasn't comfortable being around these guys.

“Because I want to spend time with Lily,” Edward stuck his tongue out at Talia, “You don’t have to sit with us Talia, no one’s forcing you to.” Edward smirked at her, “Unless this has something to do with Niall being at this table,” He wiggled his eyebrows at her before glancing at the clueless blonde who was devouring who knows what from the cafeteria’s lunch menu.

"It has nothing to do with him, I can assure you.”

Lily smiled over at Talia, "She just stays because she doesn't want to sit with someone else and make new friends.”

"They are not my friends.”

"Me thinks she doth protest too much.”

“Ok, ok,” Edward chuckled, “I think we’ve established that Talia doesn’t want anyone but Lily as a friend, back to the matter at hand,” He turned towards Liam, “Go talk to her,” He encouraged.

"She avoids me in the halls. I hardly thinks she wants to talk to me." Liam stared as he took a bite of his burger

“She’s nervous, lad,” Niall piped up, “She barely talks to anyone, most of the people around here label her as the ‘invisible nerd’. So she’s not use to people actually wanting to talk to her other then teachers.”

Liam pushed himself up and grabbed his tray, "Listen, I don't have to and I won--" Lily stood, holding up her index finger to silence him, "I'll go ask her to sit with us.”

Edward smirked, “You should tell her Liam was too scared to do it himself so you did it for him.”

Liam shot her a look, which she returned with a grin, "Maybe I will.”

"You wouldn't.”

Talia tossed a pea at Liam, her expression bored as usual, "Of course she wouldn't, she's Lily.”

“True….” Edward smirked as he shot out of his chair, “But I would.”

Liam's eyes widened, "Styles!”

“Oh Jamie~” Edward sang as he danced around Liam and headed towards Jamie.

"Edward, sit down." Lily said as she gently pushed him back into his seat.

"Fine. I'll go ask her. Happy now??” Liam exclaimed.

“Very,” Edward chuckled, “If you want to be with her alone you can always stay over there with her.” He winked playfully.

Liam groaned inwardly as he made his way over to Jamie, his hands in his pockets.

As he approached Jamie nearly threw her pencil off the table in her frustration before slamming her book shut and turning to her food.

"Jamie?”

Jamie’s head shot up, her eyes wide as she squeaked out, “L-Liam?”

He rubbed his neck, shifting his weight to his other foot, "Why don't you come sit with us?”

Jamie’s eyes quickly fell to her hands that was clenching her fork nervously, “I-I-I ummm…I really need to work on my Social Studies homework….if I don’t work on it soon I’m going to fail the course….so I uh….I think I’ll just stay here.”

He picked up her tray and her book, "Let's make a deal. You sit with us now, and I help you with your homework later.”

“N-No…” Jamie shot up and tried to grab her stuff from him, “I-I can’t.”

Liam held it out of her reach, sighing heavily, "please.”

Jamie bit her bottom lip as she folded her arms across her chest, “Why do you even want me to sit with you? We’ve known each other since the third grade and you’ve never once tried to talk to me before now.”

Lily was watching from their table, tugging lightly on her hair, "He needs backup.”

"It's entertaining to watch him crash and burn." Talia chuckled

"Talia!”

"kidding!”

“Let’s just give him a few more minutes,” Edward said confidently.

“You know what,” Jamie shook her head and grabbed her bag, “I don’t have time for this, I have other things to deal with. I wasn’t even hungry to begin with, so can I please have my book so I can go?”

Liam set her tray down and looked her in the eyes, "Jamie, Lily really wants you to come sit with us… and so do I.”

Talia rested her elbows on the table, raising her eyebrows, "Nope, he needs help.”

Lily turned to her, "Why don't you go help him then?”

"…"

Jamie’s cheeks turned bright red despite her silent protests, she let out a reluctant sigh, “Five minutes, and you have to help me with my Social Studies homework after school in the library.”

"Deal.”

Jamie let a small smile creep onto her face, “Lead the way, Mr. Bad Boy.”
