Jamie stepped into class right before the late bell rang and took her seat in the back of the class, her face still red and puffy as she put her head down. The one class she shared with Liam just had to be right after lunch, didn’t it?
When he saw her come in, Liam clumsily stood before making his way over to her, "Jamie?”
Jamie completely ignored him, scared that her voice would crack and give her away if she tried to speak. Lucky for her the teacher came in and told everyone to take their seats.
Liam groaned inwardly as he sat back down. He needed to tell her soon…
A few minutes into class the girl next to him passed him a note and whispered, “It’s from Jamie.”
He carefully unfolded it, any hope he had for talking to her later disappearing. It said that she wouldn't be able to make it to the library because she had other plans…
Jamie, in reality, didn’t have other plans, she just….didn’t know how she would face him tonight knowing he liked Talia. Before when she didn’t talk to him much it didn’t hurt to have a crush on him, but now….it was almost too painful to breathe.
Liam could hardly focus on any of the classes for the rest of the day. Why wouldn't she talk to him?
After school Jamie rushed home on her bike, threw it unceremoniously on the front lawn and bolting inside, slamming the door behind her.
Liam wandered down the street, thoughts of her occupying his mind. He glanced up to see Talia sitting on the porch of a house five doors down from his. "You've got to be kidding me.”
Talia groaned lightly when she saw him, "Really? I have to see you out of school too?? Have you talked to Jamie yet?”
"She had other plans tonight…”
Talia leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms, "After what happened, I doubt I would want to talk to you either. Go talk to her, idiot, she's probably at her house or something.”
~Jamie sat on her couch surrounded by a box of kleenex, three tubs of ice cream, and about six different movie cases. She was currently watching the first Hunger Games movie and had already eaten at least half a tub of ice cream.
A light rapping sound came from her door.
Jamie froze but didn’t get up, she was in no mood to talk to anyone.
The clicking sound of the door unlocking signaled that someone was coming in.
"Jamie?" Liam's voice rang through the house as he closed the door behind him.
Jamie let out a small scream, “How did you get in here?” She asked with a bit of fear in her voice as she dropped the tub of ice cream and stood in a panic, “That door was locked.”
"The spare key under the flower pot…" He said as he rubbed his neck, "Didn't mean to scare you…”
“What are you doing here?” She asked softly, “I told you I couldn’t make it tonight.”
"Yeah, I know… But I had something that I really needed to tell you…”
“I don’t have time for this,” Jamie shook her head and shoved him towards the door, “You need to leave.”
"Please, just hear me out-“
“There’s nothing you need to explain,” Jamie said angrily, “Who you like is none of my business and you shouldn’t have to explain yourself to someone like me.”
Liam grabbed her arms gently, "Jamie, I don't like her!”
Jamie tried to pull her arms away as she spat each word at him, “You need to leave…NOW.”
He took a couple steps back before turning and walking out, practically slamming the door behind him.
All the color drained from Jamie’s face as the tears fell down like a water fall. Jamie fell to the floor in a puddle of tears, her sobs uncontrollable as she laid there for hours on end.
