It was now three days from the masquerade, and Liam had been moping nearly every day since talking with Jamie. He and Jamie hadn't talked at all since, and Talia was getting sick of it.

Jamie once again skipped lunch in the cafeteria and sat out in the courtyard under a tree with her food and textbooks. She had drown herself in her studies since the whole confrontation and had barely left her house except for school.

"Jamie!" Talia called as she ran up to her.

Jamie looked up from her textbook slowly, she had kind of avoided anyone associated with Liam…meaning she hadn’t talked to Niall in a while. They had been best friends in middle school but had drifted apart when Niall became friends with Edward and Liam, but they still talked every once and a while….well, except for now.

“Hey Talia,” Jamie greeted barely about a whisper, “I have to go.” She threw her text book in her bag as quickly as she could and stood.

Talia grabbed her arm and pushed her up against the tree, "Stop running away!!! Listen, I'm guessing from the way you and Liam have been avoiding each other that he didn't tell you, so I'm going to and I want you to sit down and hear me out until I finish talking. Understand?”

Jamie flinched, “There’s nothing that needs explaining…I just…think it’d be better if we didn’t associate with each other.”

"Liam does not like me! He's never liked me like you think he does! Okay?? He and I have a brother and sister type relationship.”

Jamie sighed stubbornly, “Can I go now?”

"Jamie, I'd shut up right about now if I were you." Talia huffed, letting go of her arm, "Liam is sitting at his own table in the cafeteria, moping over the fact that you think he and I have any sort of "thing" for each other. He likes you. Not me. You.”

Jamie scoffed, “That’s impossible, last week was the first time he even noticed me.”

"if you don't believe me, ask him.”

“I…I can’t,” Jamie mumbled as she looked to the side.

Talia shrugged. "Fine. Whatever.”

“Why do you even care?” Jamie asked as a tear slipped down her cheek before she quickly wiped it away.

"Because. In case you haven't noticed, I'm one of your friends, and Liam is one of mine.”

Jamie nodded, a small smile creeping onto her face as she looked at Talia, “Ok…I’ll stop avoiding you guys…but…I can’t talk to Liam yet.”

Talia stuffed her hand in her pockets, "You have to soon…"

Jamie nodded vigorously, “I know, but I have an idea! Can you just make sure Liam comes to the Masquerade ball on friday?”

"Yeah, sure.”

Jamie smiled and quickly gave Talia a tight hug before pulling away and running for the door that lead back into the school, “Talk to you later!”

Talia stepped back, fallen leaves crunching beneath her feet as she sighed, "Yep... Later…"

~At the Masquerade~

Jamie smoothed out her green and black flower dress with her hands for the fifteenth time in the last five minutes as she stood backstage. The only one who knew anything about her plan was Talia and Jamie was starting to freak out as she readjusted her mask and made sure her hair was perfect.

Talia practically had to drag Liam there. After much threatening and coaxing, she finally got him to come with the promise that she would have Lily help her get ready and actually look remotely girly.
