The bed is cold.
A body is missing.

I run my hands over the creases of my mattress and slowly arise out of bed. The floorboards creak as I struggle to hoist myself onto my wheelchair,that must have been moved earlier in the morning to the side of my bed, and wheel across the floor to the window and draw open the curtains. Rain patters on the window and grey clouds float through the sky covering the world in a gloomy blanket. Why is rain always so unnerving? It's like the world is threatening you with the prospect of having a bad day. Then again I've always preferred the optimistic blue skies.

I look back to my messy bed which not too long ago kept my lover warm. A note elegantly lay on my bedside table, yearning to be read by my eyes. The note was brief and went as follows;

Dear Kaede,

I had to leave due to something urgent happening at my Uncle's detective agency that I need to help out with, I'll come pick you up at your house to take you to school at around 8. Also I left you're wheelchair by the side of your bed but I'm sure you've already noticed that by now. Oh and DO NOT TRY TO GO DOWNSTAIRS BY YOURSELF. I'll help you when I get back.

I smile at the words on the page. Of course Shuichi would worry about me trying to do things I'm honestly not currently capable of doing right now. I check my phone and I'm instantly hit with it's bright glaring screen, the time read 7:00.
I decided to text Miu, Tenko and Himiko that I'd be coming to school today since despite the four of us not spending as much time together as we'd like because we've all been busy, Miu with her inventions (and one night stands), Tenko with her Neo-Akaido training, and Himiko with her magic shows.
We have a group chat that we've been using to stay in touch. So I sent them all a quick text.

Hey guys guess who's coming back to school!??!

One Thicc Thot:
Finally! The bitch is coming back!

YAAAAYYY!!!!! KAEDE IS COMING BACK!!!!!

Okay so I didn't get the responses I would have hoped for but, at least I know they haven't changed. I'll be sure to hang out with them at lunch to make up for lost time, I'm sure Shuichi won't mind.

Shuichi will be here at 8:00 so I should begin the task of getting ready.
I roll over to my wardrobe a retrieve my uniform from its depths. Just as I'm about to get changed there's a knock on my door and in comes my sister, Kanon.
"Hey, just came to check on you" my sister greeted standing in the doorway.
"I'm fine. Just gonna get dressed, I'll be done in a bit." I replied, indicating to my uniform in hand.
"How are you gonna do that?" She questioned as she rolled her eyes.
"Uh I'm gonna put the clothes on my body! Duh!" Seriously does Kanon think I'm stupid or something!
"Kae, both your legs are broken and one of your arms. You're in a wheelchair. How are you gonna change by yourself?" Oh....
"Oh yeah.... well maybe my darling sister whom I love oh so very much would possibly lend me a hand?" I say in my sweetest most adorable and charming voice ever.
Kanon sighs in annoyance but complies and helps me have a quick wash and get dressed.
