Sara!", Mrs. Lopez called out to her daughter. Sara was busy getting ready for class, completely immersed in her favorite classic rock playlist on her smartphone. "Sara!", Mrs. Lopez called out again. Sara was completely oblivious to her mom trying to get her attention. Mrs. Lopez tapped Sara on the back and was finally successful at getting the young lady's attention. "Can you take those damn headphones out for 5 minutes?" Sara, waiting for Mom to turn away for a split second, rolled her eyes in pure annoyance. "Yes, Mother? How can I help you?", Sara said in a tone that reeked of sarcasm. Mrs. Lopez just gave Sara "the look" and Sara immediately changed her tone.

"My business trip is set for later this afternoon.", Mrs. Lopez began. "I know Mother. You've told me this a million times in the last week alone.", Sara retorted. The Mother gave Sara another look and Sara quickly mouthed the words, "Sorry".

"I do not want anybody in this house. No friends. Not that stupid boyfriend of yours. No...One...In...This....House. Are we clear?", Mrs. Lopez sternly said to her daughter. Sara responded with a somewhat sardonic "thumbs up".

Sara immediately put her earbuds in and cranked up the volume as soon as her Mom stepped out of the room. She proceeded to put her make up on, followed by combing her long brown hair. Sara, really getting into the song playing on her iPhone, decided to use the comb as a microphone and lip sync to her imaginary audience. After hitting that high note, she finished combing her hair and putting on the final make up touch ups. She slowly turned around to grab her backpack, which was sitting on her unmade bed. However, she was startled at the presence of her mother standing behind her. "Mom...seriously!?!", Sara uttered to her Mom.

Mrs. Lopez just stood there for a moment, shaking her head. "I get that you love music and all. But do you have to wear those damn earbud things nonstop? This is the second time in 30 minutes that I have called out to you...only for you to completely ignore me, and the rest of the world for that matter, because you're playing that damn music.", Mrs. Lopez said, scolding her daughter. Sara, obviously annoyed at her Mother's comments, grabbed her backpack and gave her Mom a half hearted hug.
