Everyone turned to stare at me. They all look terrified. John quickly broke the silence however.
"So what do we do?" he asked me. I sighed.
"Not what they did." I motioned at Zea and Nurse Geiger, who was observing our conversation with wide eyes. "This is a normal thing for Thousandth's, I go through this every month and I'm always fine. Making a big deal out of it only scares more and more people, and we know rumours are not exactly kind. I have no need for an ambulance." I explained to all of them. There was silence for a minute as everyone processed the information. James was staring me with a look of horror I'd never seen before, causing me to flinch. I had just become even more of a weirdo in their eyes.
John was the first to break the silence again. "So, she doesn't need an ambulance then, why did you bozo's call one?" he said slowly. Zea looked at him with incredulity.
"She's bleeding from her vagina John." She emphasized to him.
"And she says it's normal for her kind. So what?" he responded.
Amy looked at me with wide eyes. "Does it hurt?" she asked.
I looked confused at her, before processing the question. "Wha- oh, ah, on the first couple of days, but I have a medication for that and then it passes pretty easily." I responded.Zea turned to me arms waving in the air. "Days! She been bleeding out of there for days. That can't be normal, even for Thousandth's? What is the point of bleeding out of there?! Obviously she's sick and Nurse Shadow has bee contorting her brain to fit in with all her psycho conspiracy theories-" Zea covered her mouth and her eyes went wide as she realised what she'd done.
The room full of Tippies stared at her with anger (Nurse Geiger had started to pretend to gather bandages for me to get away from the conversation). Tippies had a set of rules that were unspoken, but clear. Never betray the Tip, and never call someone a psycho. Especially someone who had done so much to benefit the Tip.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean that to come out the way it did." She apologised fervently, falling to her knees. "I just- it doesn't make sense. Don't you all remember Grandma Josephine? Right before her death, Sandler told me she bled... there." Zea sobbed. George went by her side to comfort her.
That's why Zea had been so worked up about this. My eyes went wide in the realisation. Grandma Josephine had died about two years back. She had been a very loved member of the community, as the oldest living Tipper. She had died at the age of 82 from an unknown disease. The entire Tip had undergone months of quarantine at that time. However, no one was closer to Grandma Josephine then Zea. She had been by her side for months, bringing her food when her grandson Sandler couldn't.
"I'm sorry Zea, I didn't realise why you were so worried." I said softly. She smiled at me lightly through the tears.
"Could it be possible that you caught what Grandma Josephine had Holly?" asked James. His voice was frighteningly calm, something I had never heard from him before. Nurse Geiger had regained her interest in the conversation, writing down on a notepad.
"No. My bleeding started when I was 13, years before Grandma Josephine got sick. Plus, I bleed once a month and have none of the same symptoms she had." I responded pointedly towards Nurse Geiger. She nodded thoughtfully. The room went quiet for a couple of seconds, before the door slammed open again. There, standing in the frame, was Nurse Shadow.
She rushed over to me, pulling me into a warm hug. I welcomed it, feeling tears pour out again. She stood back, scanning over my face. Her red curls fell across it. She was still in her nurse's uniform, and she was soaked to the core.
"Have they done any tests, anything that hurt you?" she asked quickly. I shook my head.
"The ambulance hasn't arrived yet, they are sending in one from the higher ups." I responded, wiping my face quickly. She nodded, and I saw relief pool into her eyes. She stood up straight, quickly pulling her hair back into a bun. "That's a relief, maybe they will have some basic knowledge about Thousandth's." she jabbed at Nurse Geiger, to a shocked scoff. Nurse Shadow looked around the room. Her lanky frame might make her look weak, but all the room could feel her strong presence as she scanned over the other Tippers.
