Jessica POV
Sigh. Nathalie was a bit dramatic, the guys I set her up with had their flaws, but they were sweet guys. Who am I kidding? The last two guys may have been a miss, which was mostly my bad. I have never seen them do things like that before. Then again, they were my friends from book club sons. I should have known better.
Giovanni might be a mafia, but everyone deserves love. And to be honest, that gold-digging bitch, Olivia, his on-and-off ex-girlfriend, needs to go. I will buy her a gold shovel if that's what it would take for her to leave him alone.
I swear if Jason or Hendrick says that they are back together again, I will put my foot so far up his ass, he will be shitting my heel out for a week.
Anyways, I had to step out of the restaurant for a bit. Not only did Nathalie rejected my offer, but Jazmine thought her gold-digging ass could get my nephew. Crazy right? The audacity of women these days. It was clear that my nephew needed my help in finding a decent woman.
That woman is Nathalie.
I'm on my way to visit my beloved nephew and convince him to come over to dinner tomorrow night. It can happen willingly or forcefully. They will meet one another. I'd just have to trick Nathalie into coming over to my house. Piece of cake.
I'm an awesome aunt.
I arrived at his cover-up job, the police department. I was greeted by the police receptionist. I guess is what you would call 'em, I don't know.
"Good afternoon ma'am, how may I help you?" A young kid, maybe just turned 22 or so, greeted me. I looked at his name tag and smiled at him—such a cute baby face.
"Hi, my dear Vince. Is officer O'Brien in?" I asked him, O'Brien is Giovanni's alias. I do hope he is in, else this trip was for nothing.
"Uhmm.." he trailers off, and I followed the direction he was looking in. I saw Hendrick, and his head was glued to his computer. "Well, his partner is there, so he should not be too far. Let me call him. May I ask what your name is?"
I nodded and smiled at him. "Oh, I'm his aunt, just say Aunt J is here." he returned a lovely smile to me and nodded his head. He dialed Hendrick's line, and I watched as he picked up his phone. Vince repeated my message, and Hendrick's head snapped in our direction. He could have killed himself by how hard he made that motion.
I waved at him, and he stumbled a bit before regaining himself. "Wow, ma'am, he must be terrified of you. No one has ever made Christoph move like that." I giggled at his comment, swatting Vince playfully. Christoph is Hendrick's alias.
"What are you doing here? Did I forget something? Did O'Brien do something again? Wait a minute, did he and Olivia get back together? It's definitely that." He rambled in one breath. I am not that scary one and two. He was a bit over the top.
I rolled my eyes at him. "So what? I can't just stop by out of the blue and say hi." I said a sarcastic hi. He looked at me closely as if he was trying to decipher a code of some sort. I gave him a sweet old lady smile and said, "Thursday night, you boys have to come over to dinner."
"Isn't that usually on a Sunday?" I smiled at him, ready to give my excuse when Giovanni spoke from behind me.
"She has that wicked smile on her face." My jaw hung loosely, and he closed it shut. I love him, but I will beat his ass for his rudeness.
"She wants us to come to dinner on Thursday," Giovanni cocked an eyebrow, and he observed me, narrowing his eyes.
"I'm not going." he simply said and folded his arms across his chest. Was he challenging me? My nephew should know better by now. I am the champion of challenges.
"I will drag you by the balls out of your house if I have to. You will be there one way or another." I told him nonchalantly and with the shrug of my shoulders—Challenge set and match.
"Really, aunty, a please would do just fine, don't you think," Giovanni said, his hands dropping to his sides. Hmph.
"Of course not." I turned around, ready to leave. "See you, boys, later," I shouted and left to go back to the restaurant. Robert, my fiance and chef of the restaurant told me how Nat helped a customer with their proposal.
That's one hard-working girl, I offered her a full-time job as an assistant chef, but she declined it. She said she hates being a chef, yet she can whip up a mean dish like it was nothing. If ya ask me, she is an amazing girl overall.
Just then, my sister-in-law called me telling me that Olivia came to her home looking for Giovanni. No doubt, it was for money. She was a toxic chemical to his life. He's been doing fine without her in his life.
He even looked more refreshed over the past 3 years. I don't know what it was from, but I liked it. He had enough on his plate. Protecting his cover, doing his business, and protecting his family.
And if she came looking for him, all hell is about to break loose.
