Tom was driving home after 3 weeks of shooting in Bali. Next to him was sitting the biggest stuffed tiger he had found at the airport gift store. It was only a 15 minutes ride, it had been a top criteria when they had started searching for this house. 15 minutes of countryside scrolling before his windshield. And it always made him in a throwback mood...
Tom could still see Vee walking around the house with one of his short-sleeved shirts opened over her round belly. He took so many pictures of her it couldn't fit on his phone! To think he almost missed the birth of his first daughter...Even though Vee tried to talk him out of the project, he was shooting when baby decided to come into the world - a little early so it wasn't entirely his fault.
─ Don't you dare not be here, she had warned him on the phone.
Thankfully his director was no other than his brother Harry and the photography was taking place in Edinburgh so he managed to make it in time. He almost faint during the delivery, he wasn't very proud of that. It had been a moment full of..loud cries, to be honest!
Holding such a small human being in his hands had overloaded him with emotions he couldn't start to describe. He had now two marvelous girls in his life that both made him the happiest man. And it was only just the beginning.
Vee made some time for a new passion: writing stories for children. She had always love writing. She used to writes him cute little stories when they were separated for too long. And maybe he was only saying that because it was her but she was pretty good at it!
Tom felt like they were unstoppable. They survived the distance, the unmatching agendas, the gossips, the paparazzis, the fights and a few missteps. They made it through everything, and they still would.
Tom parked his car in front of the house and got out. The loves of his life were in the garden and the sight of them filled his heart with joy. He had missed them!
─ Daddy! Mummy look, Daddy's here!
His baby girl ran into his arm and he made her fly.
─ Who's the most beautiful birthday girl of the world, he said kissing her.
─ That's meee, she giggled.
─ Go look in the car, I've brought something for you, he winked as he put her down.
─ Yay!
He watched the 3 years old running around the car, then he turned to Vee, coming to him. She was so beautiful in her white summer dress that made her belly look enormous. She was still two mouths out of term but...Well, the little ladies were growing fast - Yes, all girls, he was surrounded!
─ You're early, she smiled putting her arms around his neck.
─ Look Mummy it's so big, chanted the little girl as she pulled out the plush from the passenger seat.
─ I can see that, she giggled. You can't do anything small, can you, she said to Tom.
─ Wait to see what I got for you and the twins, he winked.
─ Wait to see what they have for you.
─ What do you mean?
She walked away to the garden table, the little princess running behind her and trying not to fall while holding the stuffed tiger that was bigger than her. He followed them slowly, taking his time to look at them and impregnate the image in his memories.
Vee turned to him holding a crafted envelope with the hospital logo and he knew what it was before she took the pictures out of it. The last sonography...
As he watched the two baby faces almost smiling at him, with his wife leaning against his shoulder and their first born singing a ditty at their feet, he really felt like his life was complete. Who cared about an oscar? He had all he ever wanted right here.
