Tom tried to spend as much time with Vee as he could but filming an Avengers movie was very time and energy consuming. Some days, he would have to settle with just seeing her in the back of the set, but she would always smile that gorgeous smile of hers then and it would always make him happy. He tried to flirt with her sometimes but she either acted like it was a joke or became all shy and found an excuse to leave.
And today was his last day...And of course, that day he didn't saw her at all!
He was heading to his trailer, gloomy, when he spotted her with some girl on the parking lot. She was showing her something on her phone and Vee seemed upset.
─ Hi, love, he called her.
She turned around and the girl she was talking with giggled. Vee's cheeks turned red and the other one walked away with a comment he didn't heard.
─ You don't have to call me that anymore, she said sounding a little pissed.
─ I thought you liked it...
─ Yeah well, I-...Never mind.
She was definitely upset!
─ What's going on Vee?
─ Nothing. Don't you have to go pack your things?
Wow! Now she was being mean. Something wasn't right!
─ Vee...I can see you're pissed. So tell me what's going on! Did I do something wrong?
She glared at him and sighed.
─ I'm sorry. It's not you, it's just-...I'm sorry, she repeated and then added more cheerfully. We should be celebrating you wrapping off that movie!
─ Er...actually I've been invited at RDJ's for dinner tonight, he said awkwardly.
─ Oh! That's brilliant!
She tried to act like she was excited for him, but Tom could tell the dismay in her eyes.
─ But maybe I can ask if you can come along?
─ Are you kidding? Me, having dinner at Downey Town? Not happening!
─ Come on, you don't know that! Let me ask him. I'm sure he'll say yes!
That's nomaly something nobody would turn down. RDJ's little dinner parties were the place to be! And he knew her well enough now to know that she would love to be in!
─ Vee, please tell me what's wrong, he asked again. I'm not leaving until you do, so spit it out!
She sighed heavily but he crossed his arm and gave her a determined look.
─ I've send my friends some pictures we took at the park the other day. That's stupid of me, I know, but I thought they'd be smart enough not to post them on Instagram.
Tom already knew where this was heading to. He grabbed her arm and stepped closer.
─ Don't listen to what they say on the Internet, he told her.
─ I know I shouldn't. But my stupid friend is telling the entire world that we are dating and people are coming at me saying nasty things. And the more I say it's not true, the more it gets! Now people here are staring at me and...
He saw tears pearling at the corner of her eyes and couldn't bare it. He took her into a hug even though she tried to reject him.
─ It's hard not to care, she whispered when she finally gave in and leaned into his embrace.
─ I know, darling. I know.
He patted her hair until he felt she relaxed a little. Then he stepped back and took her face in his hands. She looked so fragile he wanted to kiss her. But now was really not the moment.
