I wake up later that night after sleeping all day. I'm still a little groggy from the drugs Ethan gave me that morning. I sit up slowly in bed and look around.

A small smile creeps onto my face when I see Jay slumped over in the desk chair sound asleep.

"Jay. Jayden!" I say trying to wake him up. He doesn't move.

I grab a pillow from the bed and throw it at him. It hits his chest and he grunts, then opens his eyes and looks around the room.

"Hey," he says sleepily. "Nice to see you awake."

"You too," I say with a giggle.

"I'm so sorry I couldn't stay with you. Aunt Maggie needed help moving and dad promised her we would..."

"It's okay. You didn't know your dad did that. And he didn't know this was going to happen. Don't blame yourself."

"But I promised I wasn't going to leave you and I did when you needed me most," he says as he climbs into bed beside me.

"But you're here now and you were there when I was attacked," I say as I pull him down with me as I lay back down.

"I couldn't stop it from happening though," he says as he wraps his arms around me and pulls me as close as he can with my injuries.

I wrap my arms around him and pull him closer to me. He lowers his head to my stomach and lays there like he always does. I run my fingers through his hair to calm him.

"It's okay Jay. I'm okay. Everything will heal. It'll just take some time. I'll be okay," I pause for a second. "We'll be okay."

"I know. I was so scared when I heard you screaming. I didn't know what was happening. All I knew was that I needed to get that door open and get to you," he says as he hugs my waist tighter.

"I didn't know what was going to happen. I saw spots when he stabbed me the first time and I thought I was going to pass out. Then I heard dads voice telling me to scream for help and to fight. I couldn't until I heard your steps on the porch," I say still playing with his hair.

"I'm glad I got there when I did. I just wish I had of gotten there sooner."

"We can't change the past Jay. All we can do is look forward to the future. Our future. And speaking of our future..."

Suddenly the door opens and Josh walks in.

"Oh sorry. Thought you were still sleeping Krys. Mom just wanted me to check on you to see how you were feeling."

"I'm good Josh. Tell her my leg is feeling a bit better now that your dad stitched it back up."

"Okay. You need anything?"

"Maybe something to drink?"

"Okay. I'll be right back," he says as he walks back out.

"Does he know how to knock?" Jay asks with a laugh.

"Nope."

"What were you about to say about our future?" he asks.

"Nothing. I'll tell you later. Promise."

Jay yawns just then and I realize he must have just drove straight from Boston without sleeping.

"Why don't you get some more sleep babe?"

He yawns again and nods his head against my stomach. Within minutes his breathing steadies and he's asleep.

"You're gonna be a great daddy Jay," I say. "I can't wait to tell you about our baby," I say as I close my eyes and fall asleep again.
