That future was closer than I thought, apparently.
Allow me to explain.
After my sister's meltdown yesterday, my mom came home and we told her what had happened. She suggested that Tati take the day off, so I took her shift. I was manning the cash register, when an all too familiar scent washed over me. I had just sent a text to McKenna, explaining why our previously scheduled activities had to be for a later time.
My heart rate picked up just the slightest, and my wolf hummed in delight.
'He's here!'
'No shit,' I said flatly, though there was no denying the slight excitement - and fear - that I was pushing down in my chest.
I looked up from the cash box to find my mate sauntering over towards me.
'He even walks like a model.'
I tried not to laugh at my gushing wolf, mainly because I'd look crazy bursting into sudden laughter. Never the less, a small smirk graced my features and as soon as it did, a similar one fell upon my mates beautiful face.
It wasn't the same though. Mine was humorous, and his was one someone would make after cliche-ly saying "let the games begin."
He approached the counter and I switched the smirk to my rehearsed, polite smile.
"Hi. What can I get for you today?" I asked.
His blue eyes glanced up to the menu board behind me quickly, then back to my face.
"Number 3, please."
There he goes, talking again. I inwardly sighed in a dream-like state.
I typed his order and asked what drink he wanted, already knowing it was going to be black tea lemonade.
After I typed up his order, I placed it on the counter to the kitchen, where Ramon happily snatched it up.
As he handed me the money, our hands brushed and the tingles shot up again. I tried to act like I didn't feel it, but a small shiver crept up my spine. Of course, the GQ-magazine-worthy-alpha didn't miss it, and another sexy smirk adorned his features. Though this one said, "I have you right where I want you," and I didn't know how I felt about that.
'You like it,' my wolf quipped. 'Touch him again!'
'You're crazy.' Yup, my wolf was certifiable.
'Don't say you didn't like it.'
I ignored her, and he opened his mouth to speak again.
"You know, I'm throwing a party this Thursday. You should come."
'Say yes! Please!'
Like I was going to say no to him.
"Where is it?" I asked, not wanting to seem as eager as my wolf.
'Please say your place! Please say your place!' Did I mention certifiable already?
"That new all ages club that just opened, Ultra Violet. You can even bring a friend if you want... as long as its a girl," he added with a small smile.
'Why would he want it to be a girl?' my wolf demanded.
'Easy there, tiger.'
I raised an eyebrow for him to explain.
"I don't need any competition now, beautiful."
'Swoon.'
This time, I agreed completely with my wolf. He was blunt, I liked it.
