Chapter 6
Donnie worked on my arm as I looked down. He looked at me and raised his eyebrows. "This doesn't bother you at all? I just recently ran out of morphine.." I look at him, "where do you even get morhpine? I thought you weren't the stealing type," Donnie laughed lightly. "Relax I make it myself," I raised my eyebrow (if I had one). "You can make morphine?" Donnie laughed lightly again. "Yeah, I didn't just drop my studies y'know.."
I smiled but it felt awkward, not seeing each other for ten years changed us a lot. Donnie has gotten smarter and stronger. I can tell by the look in his eyes. It was the same with Mikey. It seems like every tiny sound they don't recognize they would be alert and go still. I wasn't sure if it was always like this after I left or when I just came back, wondering if the people who took me were here to take me back.
I looked back down as he worked on my arm, when he got the bullet out I cringed slightly. "Sorry..." Donnie muttered, obviously into his work. "It's fine..." I muttered back. After another awkward moment of silence my eyes scanned around the lab, checking it out. Donnie looked at me. "So how does it feel like to be home..?"
I looked at him then at the ground, that question ringing over and over in my mind. How does it feel like to be home? I closed my eyes, thinking. "....I can't quite describe it...but a mix of joy and fear..." I opened my eyes and look at him. Donnie looked at me a little confused and surprised, I'm guessing the confusion was for the fear and the surprise for my "choice of words", I guess I did change a lot since I've been taken...
He decided to ask about the fear. "Fear? Why fear? There's nothing to be afraid of here, you're home now." I sighed. "I'm scared because I know they'll try to find me, and if I stay in the sewers and stay hidden for too long they'll eventually start looking in the sewers for me...and if they find the lair then I put you guys into danger. I can't risk it and-" Donnie interrupted me, "whoa whoa whoa whoa. You're leaving?"
"Yes. No. Maybe. Sort of?"
Donnie growled. "RAPH." He slammed his hand, while holding the needle, on the table, making me jump. "You're not gonna leave. Not ever."
"Even to get food?"
"RAPH! How do you even know that we go to the surface to get food?"
"I can smell pizza from the living room."
"....well anyway you get what I mean by not leaving." I sighed as he started stitching up my arm. "Yeah..but if they don't find out where I am soon they'll start looking in the sewers..."
"We can fight them off."
"They're not that easy to defeat."
"We got modern weapons too!"
"You guys have guns!?"
"....not that kind of modern weapon..."
I laugh lightly. "Thought so..." Donnie seemed a little shocked when I said guns, but his shocked face slowly turned into a small cheerful laugh. I smiled slightly. I decided to change the subject, everything felt too tense. Donnie smiled as he finished stitching. "Done!" I smile. "Thanks, Donnie." He smiles back, "no problem!" I look around the lab then at Donnie.
"Hey...where's Sensei?" Donnie's eyes widened. "He-he's in the dojo!" I looked at Donnie confused. "....Is something wrong?" Donnie shook his head, he smiled big. "No, it's the opposite of wrong!" I looked at him confused, "then why the stutter?" Donnie laughed lightly, "because now that you're back everything will go back to normal! Well...almost normal..." he added quietly. I remember what Mikey said about Sensei not acting differently when I disappeared, I thought about Leo and how upset he had gotten.
