Weeks had passed since Ada's hair alteration, and day by day she couldn't help but notice the stares she would get. It was almost as if a new found confidence made its way into her ample being. She walked with a new step, a new stride. She was beyond proud of her self for her improvements.
Entering her apartment, she placed her briefcase near the door. Kicking of her heels gave her immediate relief as she pressed her soles onto the hard wood floor. Laying her jacket down, she headed towards her phone seeing the red button flashing. Ignoring the regular run of the mile voicemails, while checking her mail, she pays attentional she hears Reina's voice come into ear shot.
"Ada, Call me as soon as you get this, and hurry your ass up want to be at work all day", Reina ended with slight aggravation, which Ada simply laughed at. She took it upon herself to call Reina back with the quickness, she knew how she could get. Hearing the tone-dials back to back, she was beginning to hang up until the phone finally picked up.
"Hello", Ada spoke into the receiver, to be met with an out of breath Reina.
"A-Ada its about time you called", Reina responded trying to catch her breath. Ada couldn't help but to wonder why she was so distraught, but she decided not to press it.
"Yeah, today was a little hectic. Ive gotten two new patients with very different problems. It was a lot. What's going on?", Ada desperately wanted to know what Reina had wanted.
"So something came up today, and I wanted to get your thoughts on it", Reina dragged as she heard a soft sigh from Ada. Ada knew anytime Reina wanted to get her thoughts on something, it usually wasn't anything good.
"....and that is?", Ada asked, as she heard some shuffling on Reina's side.
"Well I was wondering if you would be okay with going on a double date with Raheem and I", She asked on edge already inferring Ada's answer
"No", Ada answered with the quickness, causing Reina to let out the loudest groan through the phone.
"Ada, you don't have a choice. I'm not going to keep allowing you to do this to yourself . I have seen that confidence you have gotten just from the simple change of your hair. You need to gain control of your life again" Reina said, in which Ada deep down agreed but she would never admit it.
"Reina I know you want whats best for me, but did you think this through. I don't even know who this person in. I haven't had the time to even think about getting back on the dating scene. You know what Ive been through, I just can't take that" Ada went on and on. Reina knew all about her previous "relationship" and it wasn't a great one. Time has passed and Ada was still going thru life, not living as Reina felt she should.
"Ada, you need to let what happened with him. It's time for you to live for you,and to not allow yourself to relive your past. Not all men are the same, its time you realize that for yourself. You know I would never put you in a position like that. Now are you in?", Reina responded praying for a answer she would be happy with.
"I'll go Reina, but please bare with me. Im going into this open-minded.", Ada pleaded. She couldn't lie and say that she wasn't scared. So many thoughts were running through her head. She completely zoned out from Reina continuing the conversation.
"What if he doesn't stay once he sees me?"
"What if he thinks Im boring?"
"What if he gets a glance at me, and is immediately disgusted with my appearance ?"
"Ada, Ada do you hear me?" Reina asked repeatedly completely unaware of Ada's racing thoughts.
"Yeah I'm sorry, When are we doing this?", Ada asked.
"We are going Saturday, there's this new place uptown that we thought would be a cool little spot to vibe and have a nice time", Reina responded.
"Ok I'll make sure to be there, goodnight Reina. I'll call you tomorrow", Ada responded growing a bit tired. They had been on the phone for a while, and her day was exhausting.
"Ok, I love you girl. Sleep well", Reina responded letting out a small yawn herself.
" I love you too"

"Um Reina, I feel silly can we go back to my apartment", Ada urged as she tugged at her dress that for some reason would not keep still.
Saturday came fast, much to Ada's dismay. Her anxiety was thru the roof, especially with Reina's dramatic reaction to the outfit she had prepared before hand. Reina had to keep reassuring Ada that she looked fine. Ada was truly beautiful, the dark suede dress went perfectly with her hair. The dress was hugging every inch of her which didn't really help Ada's self consciousness.
"Ada, we are already here. You are going to be fine you look absolutely beautiful. Stop worrying and take a deep breath tonight is about you, remember that", Reina reassured Ada, as she looked over her one more time before grabbing her hand as they entered the restaurant.
Ada walked with her head down while being led by Reina. She dreaded each and every step as they neared closet and closet to the table where the unknown man awaited. Reina could feel Ada shaking , as they headed towards the back of the restaurant. Finally the moment Ada dreaded, they came to an abrupt stop.
"Hey baby", Raheem almost yelled upon seeing Reina. He was already thinking about leaving a little early based of her appearance alone.
" Hey, baby give me my kiss", Reina responded grabbing for Raheem face. As they grew aquatinted with each other. Ada painstakingly looked up from her original spit on the floor, and was taken aback.
"Amaru meet Ada, Ada this is Amaru, Raheem's friend".
