Although wale had said "I'll be right back", he never came back. I think he went home with his dad or something and it has been on my mind for a long time now.
Tobi, adunni and I sat in the living room watching fairly odd parents on Nickelodeon. I mean I was watching fairly odd parents, the both of them were on their phones. I was so bored, so I picked up the remote to change the channel.
"yura yura do.. Yura yura-
"put that thing off.. What the fuck" adunni screamed at Tobi as his phone started ringing. I laughed.
"why are you shouting" Tobi asked putting the phone on his ear.
"I was scared o... this fool will be making noise with everything.. the fuck is yura yura doh.. I still don't understand how people watch anime" adunni said to herself.
"guy.. why you call me?.... Ehehn?..no call me.. I dey busy -he rolled his eyes- oya call adunni... Yes.. Ehn" tobi cut the call and turned to the TV.
Just then adunni's phone started ringing and she sighed and picked the phone. I laughed at their behavior towards who ever was talking and continue changing the channel.
"yes?.. She's here.. Be fast..okay -adunni turned to me and mouthed ebube- take" she stretched her hand out and I took the phone.
"HI" he chirped over the phone is voice a bit throaty.
"hello" I said over the phone with my cheeks heating up.
"so if I don't call you won't Abi? " he said coughing lightly.
"you know I don't have a phone" I said and adunni took the remote from me and changed the channel to E news.
"what's wrong with your voice" I asked turning to see a new episode of the Kardashians showing on the TV.
"I'm not feeling too well.. I've got cough and malaria" he says then sneezes.
"I guess I have catarrh now" he says and I laugh. Adunni turns to me and rolls her eyes.
"Abeg.. I was busy with my phone and I need it.. You mumus can continue with your love in school" she says putting her hands forward so I can drop her phone and I hiss.
"we'll see tomorrow?" ebube asks after I tell him what adunni said.
"okay.. yes" I say and put off the phone.
Immediately after I give her the phone, she abandons the TV and is back to her phone.
Uncle yinka who had come back to Lagos a few days ago, comes to the sitting room dressed to go out.
"look at the children writing jamb this year" uncle yinka says annoyed.
"so I'm paying for you to be pressing your phones and you to be watching TV?, do you want to go to school? " he yelled.
"daddy, this is a computer age and everything we need to study is on our phones, see" Tobi said smartly and stood up to show his father something which definitely pertains to study.
His dad looked from the phone to his son and nodded. "and you " he said to adunni who quickly pressed a button on the bottom part of her phone, and when she did so, a whole lot of apps she had been on came up and she tapped one and showed her father who also nodded.
Ugh, what would I do, I was watching TV.
"seems like you weren't doing anything productive" uncle yinka said and bowed my head in embarrassment.
"it's probably because she doesn't have a phone" Tobi added and I raised my head and quickly turned to him.
"several amounts of people without phones have passed their exams" my uncle stated.
